*big sigh* okay I'll be the on to ask.
As someone who is very infatuated with Val already, what would their(or any RO that could potentially change MC into a creature) reaction be to an MC who is in a situation such as severe illness/disease/ injury and the choice is to let them die or change them?
Would they discuss this topic before hand?
Will any of the ROs even thought about it?
Or even the dreaded "are we going to talk about what happens when you are stuck here and I am slowly going to move away from your embrace day by day"?
If this is to agnsty for your IF I totally respect that. I just have angst gremlins in my brain right now
Val is a strange case tbh. In a hypothetical, âhey would you/what if...â scenario in which they were questioned about it, I think Valâs initial reaction would be âhey, thatâs against the rules. No, I would never change you. Itâs best if you died, tbh.â
But if it actually happened... Yeah Val wouldn't be so rational about the entire situation.
Cyrus is the only other character whose species is infectious(? And they'd honestly rather see MC die than be subjected to what they go through as a zombie. They'd see death as a mercy.
As for their immortality, Val has already watched everyone they've ever cared about die for the past 200 (give or take) years. If they get together with MC, the fact that it's a passing thing is something that they've accepted beforehand. (Double the pain if you do their poly with N! Werewolves have normal-ish lifespans).
M wouldn't be able to be so rational about it!^^ They'd see it as a problem to fix. Preferably by somehow stopping to be immortal. But yeah that's never happened so M would have to deal with the fact that, not only are they outliving MC, but they're also literally watching their time go by like a ticking clock.
??? is also immortal! But it's more a... âIâll deal with it tomorrow but tomorrow I'll say the same thingâ kind of deal for them.

hey, i hope you don't mind my asking and feel free to not respond, but what actually happened with twc? i've never played it, but i see you posting about it sometimes and what happened seems to be pretty major in the if community, but i haven't seen anything explaining what it is (besides some complete bs, of course). could you tell me?
alright i'm going to make one post about this only because i've gotten multiple asks about this, and i'm going to assume this is in good faith, but i implore you to just go through the twc tag and read what actual readers are saying - but for people that missed what initially happened, i'll try my best to condense it under the cut.
know that firstly this is not a one off incident but an accumulation of mistakes and inaction and general ignorance on mishka's and nai's part, and also that i am white and their apologies are not mine to accept, and that the best we can do right now is to listen to readers and writers of color and understand why people are upset and angry.
leading up to this incident, there have been multiple problems that readers have time and time again brought up to mishka and called attention to, including:
harmful stereotypes in the depiction of M, a person of color, as being crude and hypersexual - so much so as calling them "animalistic" at one point (mishka did apologize for this)
which also leads to repeated whitewashing of M, N, and F, and that their skintones and ethnicities have been treated as "spoilers" and were hidden behind a paywall for a period of time in which people unknowingly whitewashed the characters due to the poor in game descriptions and encouragement of mishka (the skintone swatches have since been posted and mishka/nai has completely stopped reblogging colored art of UB. they have never properly acknowledged this)
making all of unit alpha, who are werewolves, people of color, which is already a whole issue on its own within the supernatural genre, as well as perpetuating the stereotype that MÄori men are aggressive and sexual, likening them to dogs, just so the vampire RO can be possessive/protective over the detective
F's character continuously being sidelined as the "black best friend" trope
the fact that apparently she has queer beta readers but the gay/lesbian intimate scenes with M are... like that.....
also this is me personally but the heterosexual ideals for unit bravo where they look different depending on their gender is something that really bothers me and while i could let that go on it's own, adding it on to the way the gay romances are clearly second thought compared to the straight romances makes it more of a problem
the way A's demisexuality was handled (this was the same time that the animalistic comment was made about M) - mishka stated that A was ace due to trauma, and then had them teased about it by F and M which was. a choice
this has accumulated and led us to what happened the other day. and i cannot stress this enough - these are all problems that have been brought to mishka's attention again and again and have been ignored again and again.
the other day nai/mishka were posting instagram edits for unit bravo and posted one for M in which M had a white hand. M is not white. for reference, this is their official color swatch released by mishka after pressure from the community:
people were rightfully angry and hurt by this and commented under the post expressing so. eventually this led to nai deleting the edits, and posting a very vague and self-pitying apology in which she did not explain what she did or why it was wrong and also made it seem like she was a victim, somehow. this then resulted in the comments under the apology exploding, with people throwing around racial slurs and harassing readers of color for not accepting said apology.
during this time, nai/mishka chose to post a cheeky picture of a beach and about how their holiday was going, completely ignoring the comments and notifications under the post as well as people fully @ing them in separate posts to bring attention to what was happening. i understand that if they were on holiday they may not have had the time/ability to fully address what was going on, but the tone-deafness of posting the beach pic and allowing their queue to run for some time and completely ignore what was happening was... not a good look.
eventually after a lot of pressure and suggestions from the community they completely turned comments off for their posts, as well as went through and deleted all the racist comments under the apology. they then made another statement promising to do better, and look into bias training and getting sensitivity readers.
how someone chooses to have over half their cast be people of color and not already have sensitivity readers is beyond me... but the real problem here is the repetition of the same mistakes and lack of acknowledgement or growth from mishka or nai.
they can keep making apologies and promises but they have been doing that since the beginning and there has been no change. i've said before i do not think either of them are willfully malicious, they are simply ignorant and privileged, but when you have a platform like this and have had these same issues come up again and again i think it's time to step back and actually listen to these criticisms. they also make an insane amount of money off their patreon - they can easily hire sensitivity readers with that.
they stress that they want their blog and fandom to be a safe place for everyone but they harbor racists and homophobes and refuse to take a firm stance against them, instead making hand-waving comments and empty promises while maintaining a center stance that can sway one way or another.
in both statements, mishka/nai paint themselves as victims, going so far as to blame fans for whitewashed content and saying they can't control them, and while this is true to an exent, it was also their choice to paywall the official art of unit bravo and choosing to reblog whitewashed fanart (with praise!!) early on. again, this has never been acknowledged by them.
and that brings us to today. i really don't have anything else to say - again, i really suggest you go through the twc tag and read what actual fans/readers of color are saying. i have not read twc since book 2 and have only been kept in the loop about all of this because some twc fans have consistently been harassing me and other authors for various things, and i'm going to be honest - i'm really fucking tired of twc.
i wish the best for mishka and i sincerely do hope she actually puts real effort into making changes going forward but forgive me for being a bit cynical about it when this is a repeated pattern of behavior from her. at the end of the day she's still going to put out 7 books with cog and continue to be a big name in the interactive fiction community. the least she can do is set a better example and put in the work to earn it

Cold Katherine Pierce x Reader
You just wanted one day free from all the vampire, witch and doppelganger drama. One freaking day is all you asked for and Damon couldn't even give you that. Although you partially blamed yourself for not accepting Rebekah's invitation to come to New Orleans for. A while to get away from all the drama you turned her down because of fear of getting involved with Originals problems. But at least you wouldn't be babysitting someone you hated with a passion.
Keeping Katherine Pierce away from Silas was supposed to Jeremy and Matt's problem. But unfortunately you stumbled upon her first, and when you called Damon to figure out. What to do with her he proceeded to beg you to keep her with you. Because he trusted you to keep her safe and in check way more than he did the other boys. Alas that's how you ended up here camping in the middle of nowhere with the she-devil. Katherine glared as she watched you throw more wood in the fire to keep it going. "Don't stare to hard your eyes might get stuck" you said not looking up at her.
"Why are we even out here just take me back to Mystic Falls. I'll stay with the boys" she said. That was her first time speaking since you picked her up. You scoffed "Oh believe I wish I could but none of the boys are available right this minute. Plus none of them want anything to do with you." Both Jeremy and Matt shot you a thank you text for taking her off their hands. You sent them a fuck you reply naturally. "Well can we at least go back to town" Katherine demanded."
"No everyone is looking for you plus I don't trust you not to run."
"Oh please you would love it if I escaped then you would finally be-" And my friends lives would be in even more danger and it would be my fault" You said cutting her off. "Listen we're just stuck with each other right now so I really need you to suck it up and be quiet." Katherine looked as if she wanted to argue but you stared her down. Until she looked away and just nodded. It's not that she was scared of you but she was human now and stuck in the middle of nowhere. You hid the car keys from her so she couldn't play you. Katherine was still getting use to being human, and surviving wilderness wasn't a challenge. She was ready to tackle yet plus deep down she knew you were right. Even if she did get away the whole town was looking for her to sacrifice her to Silas.
You were one of the hybrids that survived Klaus's tyranny and got your freedom back. If there was anybody equipped to keep her safe it was you. The two of you sat in silence for a long time. Eventually you laid down using your bag as a pillow deciding that Katherine wasn't going to make a run for it. So you wanted to get some sleep but the sound of chattering teeth interrupted your slumber. You turned over to check on the doppelganger and instantly felt sorry for her. She had her arms wrapped around her body hugging herself while rubbing her arms. Her entire body was quaking when she caught you looking. Katherine immediately tried to get the shivering under control and the teeth chattering stopped.
There use to be a time when Katherine didn't mind being vulnerable around you. A time where you and her actually got along with each other. Back when you were friends and almost lovers till you found out that she was just using you. Because that's all she did was use people for her own personal gain. At least that's what you thought in all truth Katherine really did care about you. And once she realized how much you meant to her the whole plan changed. She hoped you never found out the truth but alas you did courtesy of Klaus. Who wanted to cause her as much pain as possible for always escaping him.
Once she realized there was no getting you to forgive her. Katherine just decided to treat you like you never mattered at all. But when you were this close to her looking at her like she just a lost soul who needed a friend. It was hard to think of you as someone who didnât matter. "You don't have a jacket" you said aloud. It wasn't a question but Katherine still nodded her head. You let out a sigh and then vanished speeding away to the car. You were back at the campsite in a matter of seconds with a blanket tossing it at her.
She managed to catch it and quickly wrapped it around her. Sighing at the warmth it provided her eyes watched you proceed to lay back with your back to her. "It's still cold out here how are you not freezing. Last time I checked werewolves weren't immune to the weather like Twilight."
You snorted "I'm surprised you even know what Twilight is when did you even have time to watch it."
"You forced me to watch it one night when you were drunk. I read the books afterwards to see if they were any better" she replied quietly.
You turned over to see her staring at you with an emotion in her eyes that you couldn't place. Pain, love, regret maybe a mixture of all three. Either way it made your heart skip a beat, and before you knew what you were doing. You were walking over to her to join her on the log. "Since you're so concerned about my well-being. You're sharing the blanket now shove over and let me sleep." With a hint of a smile Katherine distributed the blanket between the two of you. She was forced to lay down with you but she didn't really mind. "You know this doesn't change anything between us" you murmured already half asleep. "I know" she whispered back staring at the sky. A few minutes later she felt weight on her shoulder. She didn't need to look to know you had somehow ended up cuddling up to her in your sleep.
She looked at you because she liked to watch you sleep sometimes. It reminded of how innocent you use to be before she came into your world. A time before you became so cold to her. Katherine really wished she could go back to those days.

YOU WERE ENTERING Beacon Hills while looking at the forest around you which looked spooky, possibly because it was night or they were infested with those human dogs. Possibly both. You still remember the faces of Niklaus, Kol and Elijah knowing that you would live here. You think it was the best thing in the world, but you get it. That your sister, the youngest of the Mikaelson clan, decides to move alone, with no one from her family nearby and in a "city" full of dogs. You would also worry.
It began to be heard on the radio lurk from the neighborhood to which you began to hum it. This century was very different: 16-year-olds look like 18 or 19, their type of clothing... You did not complain, it is better than the clothes of before.
Six teens and two adults appeared out of nowhere to which you stopped. You got out of the car and they watched you from head to toe. One in particular made your blood run cold. Derek Hale...
You sighed and spoke.
"Forgiveness! Are you okay?" You asked, and the bearded one came up to you.
"What are you doing here?" He asks and you start to breathe. Human dogs have to hear it and feel it so they know that you are not something supernatural. Speaking of that title, it's the best series and more daddy Dean. You pulled myself out of your thoughts and looked from left to right to fix your gaze on the dark haired man.
"Me?" He nodded. "Sorry. Do I know you?"
"Don't act, Mikaelson," he snap at and Peter comes closer to both of you. The Good Peter, he was more your brother than the ones you have, well not so much like that but he was like a brother.
"I think you're wrong" you say to see him in the eyes. "My name is not like that" you say playing stupid, well! When you don't? Coming here you thought that Derek and Peter would leave and more because of what happened to his sister who did not doubt that Peter would kill her. But just in case you knew you would have to change your first and last name.
"It's not a name," says the older of the two raising an eyebrow. "What's your name?" He ask.
"Diane Jones" you say pretending to be a little scared. You saw how Derek would glare at you deadly and the teens stared at the scene in confusion. Wow! The redhead's shoes were fantastic.
"What brings you to Beacon Hills?" Asked Peter.
"I came to live here" you respond.
"Alone?" Said the one with black hair, super furious. He looked sexier like that. "Without your parents?"
"Excuse me, but I don't have to tell you anything" You walked back and Derek took your arm tightly and the children approached looking worried.
"You won't leave until you answer." Peter put his hand on Derek's shoulder with a "calm down" look
"And your parents?" He asks calmly.
"I do not have. I'm an orphan" you say looking at your feet. Seriously, you deserve an Oscar for best actress.
"How did you get here?" Peter still asked.
"My uncles sent me here to study and not cause problems" you say looking at Peter.
"Don't li-" Derek says to be interrupted.
"It's not her" said Peter. "Listen" as you said, breathing helps and more if it is accelerated when you feel threatened.
"Can I go?" You asked.
"Yes" Peter says. You walked to your car and your turned it on to continue on your way, when you saw that you were far away you start to laugh. Derek's faces and the wolf children, the banshee, and the humans were gold.
You arrived at your new home. You smiled when you saw that it was normal, not big and not too small. A normal house. It was supposed to be furnished since yesterday. You got out of your car and opened to see the living room, you closed the door and walked into the kitchen and up the stairs. You went into all the rooms and they were perfect and yours was much more.
It was big, being a Mikaelson it couldn't be small. You were already beginning to miss them. Well not all. Elijah and Rebekah's overproduction were suffocating. Also you will no longer be listening "little Klaus" or "little Kol" You're not like them, you just like to have fun. And you like being with them more. Kol and you, hunted and had fun at parties and flirting with people. Klaus gave you life lessons. You were amused by his stories and how could he be so... him. Of your seven siblings, you only loved Kol and Klaus, of course you had your differences: you were friends with Katherine and Klaus hates her, you love the Salvatore brothers with your life and they detest them, even more. You lay down on the bed and you smiled a smile that only bring problems.
Isaac Lahey Pov
"It was her," Derek says, somehow I felt concern and more to see how he reacted when he saw the girl as our age.
"Who is she?" Scott ask.
"Y/N Mikaelson" Peter said calmly.
"And she is...?" Stiles question them.
"She is one of the Originals and Derek's great love," Peter replies.
"Original of what?" Lydia ask.
"From the Original Vampires," Derek says angrily.
"They exist?" Almost all of us say at the same time.
"Yes. And between them the two hybrid of Vampire and werewolf" explains Peter.
"What is a hybrid?" Allison ask to which Stiles responds.
"Hybrids are a supernatural cross between two or more different species. The term is commonly used to describe a werewolf turned vampire, as they were the first type of hybrid introduced to the world. However, since the creation of the werewolf-vampire hybrids, there have been other hybrids of other races in the universe, such as siphons turned into witch-vampire hybrids, werewolf-witch hybrids, among others" he says to finish.
"How do you know that?" Asks Scott.
"I read it when I was trying to find out what you were, but I thought the vampire thing was a lie," Stiles responds.
"A hybrid is more lethal than any werewolf or vampire" Says Derek. "Nature does not tolerate such an imbalance of power. Thus, the warlocks, the servants of nature, saw to it that the wolfish side of Klaus and Y/N Mikaelson are asleep. But they are still a danger.
"Who are the Mikaelsons?" I ask.
"The Mikaelson family is a powerful family whose line goes back at least to the Kingdom of Norway in the late 10th century with Mikael and Esther, a wealthy landowner and a Viking warrior, and a housewife and a witch, respectively. In the early 11th century, the family was deadly until the loss of Esther and Mikael's seventh child, Henrik to a werewolf attack that spurred them to use Esther's magic to turn Mikael and the rest of their living children into the The world's first vampires, from whom all Vampires are descended from the original vampires, are known as the most powerful supernatural beings in the world, but the Mikaelson family is also known to have members who are also witches and hybrids. Among them are two hybrids: Klaus and Y/N. In total the Mikaelsons are eight; Mikael, the father, Esther, the mother, Freya, The first daughter which is only a witch and does not belong to the original lineage, Finn, The second son, Elijah, the third son, Klaus, the fourth son which is the hybrid and is not the son of Mikael but bears his last name, Kol, the fifth son, Rebekah, the sixth daughter, Y/N, the seventh daughter which is not the daughter of Mikael and the last, Henrik, the eighth son. Of these eight only are alive: Freya, Elijah, Klaus, Kol, Rebekah and Y/N" Derek answers.
''They wasted no time," Stiles says.
"Neither is Esther. Children of different parents" I say smiling. "But how did "first hybrids" happen?
"When Klaus and Y/N first killed after being turned into vampires, they triggered their werewolf gene, which finally reveals the truth of their true paternity to their family: Klaus and Y/N were not Mikael's children but the boss's children of her village werewolf clan, with whom Esther had an affair. Once Mikael learned of Esther's infidelity and realized that her lover's pack were the werewolves who killed Henrik, Mikael hunted down and killed Klaus and Y/N's father and his entire family, igniting a war. Between vampires and werewolves that still exists. Shortly after the Mikaelsons became vampires and learned of Klaus and Y/N werewolves' legacy, Esther was forced to curse Klaus and Y/N to make their werewolf natures lie dormant, so that they didn't bother yet. More to nature by possessing so much power. However, Klaus and Y/N felt betrayed by this punishment, and in retaliation, Klaus murdered his mother and framed Mikael for the act. Understood?" Peter asks and I nod.
"I'm more than sure it's her!" Derek exclaims.
"It has to be her, if you questioned her or just stopped...-Lydia says to be interrupted by Peter.
"It's her DoppelgÀnger..."
Y/N Mikaelson Pov
You got out of the tub while you were dripping to grab the towel and start drying off. Tomorrow would be your first day in high school, you had never attended one and according to Caroline and Stefan they are very good, also Rebekah go into one and she looks older than you. You wrapped the towel around your body and left the bathroom to go to your room. You dropped the towel while you felt the air all over your body, you took off your underwear from the wardrobe and then put on a loose shirt and some pajama shorts. You go down to the kitchen for some whiskey and you go back upstairs. You arranged your things for tomorrow and left them arranged so that you only had to go...

Crushcrushcrush//Kim Hongjoong (ATEEZ)
Request:Â Hi i was wondering if you could do a soulmate werewolf hongjoong x human female reader angst and fluff like she over hears hongjoong saying something and she gets sad and shy and worried and stuff.....
Pairing: Kim Hongjoong x Fem!Reader
Genre: Angst with fluff at the end, Werewolf!AU, Soulmate!AU, a bit of College!AU
Warnings: Hongjoongâs kind of a dick with irrational thinking, cussing I guess
Word Count: 7.2k
(A/N: Lets just pretend I didnât disappear for 6 whole months, but i am back and my medication is no longer giving me the big sad so Iâm a little more motivated to write. This isnât the best work Iâve done, this is actually idea 10 for this prompt and idk if itâs executed properly but Imma keep trying and hopefully, to keep from falling back into a slump, Iâll start a new series so I have a regular scheduled fic for everyone. Also, I think I botched expressing the AUS here but just let me know what you think. Sorry for always disappearing, I canât promise I wonât go off the grid again but Iâll try harder to be active in anyway)
Your mother always said crushes stayed crushes for a reason: they hurt. Bad. But you thought she was wrong, that your feelings for someone could one day be reciprocated later if not sooner, and thatâs what led you to him. Kim Hongjoong. The day you met was a complete accident, your body slamming into his as you wandered aimlessly during your freshman year of high school. He was gorgeous with wide brown eyes, beautiful pink lips and cheeks, his hair styled differently from the other boys to reveal his forehead, showing his individuality. He was perfection.
âIâm so sorry. Are you alright?â Those were the first words he spoke to you, his voice so gentle, so sweet. And the way he reached out to help you with no hesitation, holding your hands as he pulled you up effortlessly.
It was love at first sight, all until he looked down to your hands, eyes catching a glimpse of your wrist, a row of zeros peeking through the sleeve of your uniform jacket. He slowly pushed the fabric up, both your eyes widening to see your soulmate clock had finally timed out, his hands releasing yours to check his own wrist, a quiver to his lips as his clock matched yours, his once soft eyes now hard as he stared you down.
âStay far away from me.â He warned, not saying another word as he headed to his homeroom, your body frozen as you watched him disappear. He was so harsh, yet you liked him. Maybe suddenly finding his soulmate scared him, but it was no problem to you! You were bound to end up together so you played the waiting game with him, being the perfect soulmate you could possibly be whether he accepted it or not.
And that led you here, now seniors in college and still acting the way you were when you met. Hongjoong was still cold, treating you like some plague while you could only smile along. You werenât sure how you missed the fact you lived in a predominantly werewolf area until a public service announcement came on your television one night to remind humans to stay indoors during the full moon, that night dedicated to werewolves being as free as they could be, but it made you even more hopeful when you were on your way home from work one night, taking a shortcut through the woods since it lead right to your backyard.
You were 16 at the time, so the sight of a shirtless person would obviously make you flustered, but a shirtless Hongjoong? Enough to cause a nosebleed. He was 16 as well, the exact age a werewolf develops a mate bond and, seeing as youâve already been confirmed as soulmates in the human world, the sudden desire to latch onto you and never let you go once you locked eyes only made your lifelong attachment more real, and he was freaking out. He didnât speak, opting to shift without removing the remainder of his clothes, your eyes wide as he moved deeper through the thick trees and towards the horizon where the orange sky was in full view and, the grin on your face just couldnât stop growing. You knew werewolves had a stronger drive to their mates, so the idea that he could avoid you forever was laughable. Sure, you were both 23 and he has uped his disdain for you from staying silent to calling you any vile name he could think of, but it was only a matter of time before he came around. You just knew it.
â(Y/n), stop gawking.â Miyeon joked, poking your side to snap you from your daydreams, your eyes widening when you noticed a few of Hongjoongâs friendâs catching your gaze, a blush painting your face as you turned away.
âI wasnât gawking, just making sure their table was okay. I am their waitress tonight.â
âAnd every other night because you said, and I quote, âI wanna work at any table my Joongieâs going to be at!âïżœïżœïżœ She mocked, your eyes rolling as you looked back towards them.
You took a job at a diner just a few blocks from both your apartment and college campus, the pay great and the distance convenient. It was the only time you had to yourself instead of lingering to Hongjoong, figuring out his classes and breaks to give him snacks and lunches youâd personally make for him since you overheard him complain about the campus food before, only to be told they tasted like shit and heâd find his own food. It was a bit of a kick to the face to hear that, but you had one saving grace: his pack. The first time Hongjoong sent you away with a bitter remark, they were curious about you, tracking you down when they werenât with their alpha to get more info on who you were and what you found so loveable about the man treating you like some demon. They were surprised by how sweet you were and how accepting you were to be the unwanted luna of an eight-wolf pack. They could never hate Hongjoong but they sure as hell loved you just a little more than him. Unbeknownst to both of you, Yunho and Mingi found out where you worked, making a plan with the others to take Hongjoong there as much as possible so he would have no choice but to interact with you, even if he stayed silent to not appear like an asshole in front of the various strangers dining as well. Hongjoong would honestly never return if he had the choice, but something about the restaurantâs signature burger kept bringing him back, which is why he was here, sipping his soda angrily as he waited on his meal that would be served by his worst nightmare, you.
âI donât know why you donât just find someone else. Isnât it easy for humans to reject soulmates? You could move on with no problems.â She said, helping you grasp onto the steel tray covered in various meals, a huff leaving you as you put on a bright smile.
âBecause I know itâs harder to move on for wolves. You guys donât have a choice on who your mates are, and you just accept it once you meet them. I know Hongjoong will accept me eventually, itâs just gonna take some time.â You gave one more smile before wobbling towards the table in question.
Hongjoong tried not to follow the gaze of his pack as they watched you happily approach them, letting out a huff as you adjusted the tray onto your shoulder, grasping the plates and placing them in front of the respective person, Hongjoongâs nose twitching at the smell of his burgers and fries, not wasting anytime to dig in as the otherâs thanked you, but you shyly looked at the male before you, the tray pressed to your chest as you tried to find a casual way to speak with him.
âI-uh- I-I remembered last time you asked for extra cheese, so I decided to put cheese in the burger too! I hope you like it better than the tofu stew I made you for lunch the other week.â
âI didnât ask for extra cheese this time, so why put it inside my burger where I canât take it off?â He said spitefully, mouth still full as he set the half-eaten burger down.
Your smile faltered but bounced back as you reached towards his plate.
âO-oh! Well, I can take it back and make you another! This time I ca-â
ââThis timeâ? You shouldâve just done it from the start. Your job is to listen and do what youâre told and you canât even do that? What can you do right?â
You swallowed hard, your eyes wandering to the people now staring at you as the scene unfolded, your heartbeat ringing in your ears as you tried to hold it together. The worst heâs called you in an idiot and that was usually under his breath, so to practically say it out loud, in front of strangers while you were in the middle of a shift and forced to do nothing but smile like you usually would, felt like you were being stabbed and burned simultaneously. You couldnât keep smiling, looking down as you tried to apologize, only for him to cut you off once again.
âGo bother someone else. Or hide in the back if youâre just gonna keep fucking up this much.â
The space was eerily silent, even with the soft music playing, your eyes not leaving your shoes as you shuffled away. It was a pitiful sight, Seonghwa releasing a breath he didnât realize he was holding as you went to a neighboring table to retrieve plates and glasses left by a couple from before. He was ready to tear Hongjoongâs head off, not as a gamma to an alpha but as one friend to another, his jaw tight as he prepared to berate him the way he did you but, somehow, Wooyoung beat him by asking a question none of them thought to ask before.
âWhat did she ever do to you that you have to treat her like that?â
There was a strange but tense silence as they awaited his answer, watching him taking small bites of his fries as he stared ahead at nothing before turning to them with what could only be described as a sadistic smirk.
âImagine being 13 and finding out the best years of your life, the years of dating, hooking up, just discovering who you are, are gone because your mate decides to show up and take that from you.â
âAre you fucking stupid? Thatâs the reason we have mates, so we can do those things with one person instead of random people!â Seonghwa nearly yelled, trying to keep his voice low as to not alarm anymore spectators again.
âFor the past 7 years, Iâve been trying to get her to leave or just reject me, but itâs clear to me now that sheâs just an idiot that doesnât understand sheâs not needed, by me or anyone. And, if youâre as dumb as her, Iâll simplify it for you: sheâs unwanted.â
Whatever pain you felt before suddenly disappeared into a numbness you couldnât explain. He knew you were there, that you could hear him, that you would hear him, and yet he still said it. You were conflicted and sad, your lips curling in a mixture of disgust and anger before settling on a bright smile. Never mind the fact your tears finally spilled over, that your heart ached with every beat and your body felt heavy with the weight of being rejected by someone you waited so long for, you just had to smile. Soulmates were supposed to be a sure thing, supposed to be your happily ever after, yet it just turned out to be a crush, one that you shouldâve let die the day you met him.
â(Y/n/n)âŠâ Miyeon spoke cautiously as you made your way towards the bar, your other coworkers watching from beside her as if you were some strange spectacle.
âWe have to start cleaning, yâknow? Itâll help us get out of here a lot faster tonight.â You said in your usual cheerful tone, tears still flowing and a faint crack to your voice.
âHow about you just head home for the day, (Y/n)? We can handle everything from here.â Your manager said, her eyes scanning your face as you moved past them and to the kitchen, their bodies following instinctively.
âWhat? No! Iâm fine! We still have 4 more hours to go and I think if I get a head start with the chefs for tomorrow lunch specials I ca-â
â(Y/n), please-â
âIâm fine, Miyeon! Really! Itâs not like I got broken up with or anything, I never even had a boyfriend! Just a crush on someone that thinks Iâm a waste of space! Isnât that super ironic? Spending most of your life chasing after someone that wants nothing to do with you? Thatâs really funny, right?â You choked out, lips pursing into a thin line to keep in your sobs but your attempts were futile, everything slowly starting to hit you at once until your body collapsed, one of the other servers catching you before you hit the ground.
It was all a blur from there, the words of comfort everyone offered turning into muffled noise as your cries of agony came out freely, the way Miyeon dragged you from the emergency exit at the back of the building and to her car to take you home, and even when you crawled into bed and managed to sleep despite the pounding headache. 7 years came and went and there was nothing to show for it. No soulmate, no boyfriend, no romance, not even a friendship. You were empty and for some reason the only thing filling your heart and mind was the person who broke you.
It felt like time stood still yet hours had passed, Hongjoong back in his own bedroom pressing away at his keyboard, stopping occasionally to write a few notes down from his new composition, but he wasnât distracted enough to hear his door open, various footsteps entering and even a few bodies settling in on his bed, his eyes not bothering to leave his notebook as he figured this moment would come.
âYou donât need to lecture me.â He grumbled, going back to play a few more notes only to find his keyboard unplugged, Mingi tossing the cord away as his alpha stared him down.
âItâs only a lecture if you listen and learn, which you wonât, so weâre gonna make you feel as bad as possible for driving away the only person that gave a shit about you.â San said with a bright smile, a scoff leaving Hongjoong as he finally turned in his chair to face them, eyes scanning the room to see this situation wasnât playful but truly hostile, almost like an ambush.
âSo, you guys donât care about me?â
âTrying to get you to accept your soulmate so you donât die shows we care a lot more than we should.â Yeosang spoke, making himself comfortable as he sat against the pillow and headboard.
âBut weâre the real assholes for trying to force her with someone as shitty as you.â Seonghwa finally said, Hongjoongâs head snapping in his direction as he let out a dry chuckle, shifting in his seat so he was leaning backwards, arms crossed as he told himself to stay calm during his friendâs potential tantrum.
âI feel like you have the most to say since youâve been in love with my mate the longest, so go ahead, tell me how Iâm such a bad man, Seonghwa. Iâm all ears.â His smugness made the tension worse, Seonghwa stepping closer with clenched fist.
âIâm not in love with you mate, but if I didnât know someone was waiting for me because we were fated to be together, maybe I would have asked (Y/n) out, because she deserves better than a lowlife with the brain function of a dead goldfish. But I respect her too much as your mate and my luna to not push those boundaries so I tried to help her get closer to you because I know you, Hongjoong. Youâre not an asshole or a jerk, but to her? You treat her like shit, when really youâd have no one without her. Youâre a short, scrawny, nerdy moron that locks himself in a dark room for days on end just to complete a single project, then emerge to eat cold pizza and watch Despicable Me because your pea-sized brain canât comprehend anything that isnât brightly colored animation. If you take away your alpha status, no girl would even look in your direction but you have someone literally at your side, the only human not afraid of you, trying to figure out everything there is to know about you, yet you canât give her the time of day. You probably donât even know a damn thing about her.â
âUnfortunately, I know more than enough about her.â Hongjoong spoke, all amusement gone as he glared at the older male, their mindlink clogged with threatening growls and barks, trying to keep their fight from getting physical.
That first sentence alone made Hongjoongâs blood boil, his face contorted in a mixture of pain and disgust. How could Seonghwa even say that to him, plotting to steal his mate all because he was a bit uncertain? That all it was, uncertainty! He didnât hate you, or wish you werenât around, he actually grew to anticipate and enjoy your ramblings about your day or whatever new thing caught your attention, he actually even loved the lunches that youâd make for him. He couldnât help that over the years he grew to crave you more, but the thought of fully accepting you and solidifying that the best years of his life were about to be gone, restricted to one person forever before he could even determine for himself his likes and dislikes, what he considered real love rather than what fate wanted him to feel, was terrifying. So he distanced himself from you, spending the years watching you from afar in hopes that if he didnât get too close he wouldnât lose his free will completely.
But it was a bad habit that seeped into your college years, everyone assuming he cared so little for you when he knew everything there was to know. He knew where you worked before any of the boys did, where your apartment was, the fact you were a business major planning to open a bakery once you graduated, he knew you didnât have classes on Fridays but always came back on campus because you prepared meals for the menâs and womenâs wrestling team which is where Jongho first met you, he knew you hated mint chocolate chip ice cream just like him but loved chocolate ice cream with mint chips, he knew you were always cold but overheat at night and wake up at exactly 3am to change into shorts and a tank top to be more comfortable, he knew about the birthmark on your lower back and a scar on your hip from a cat scra-
âHoly shit, youâre insane.â Wooyoung breathed out, Hongjoongâs eyes focusing on the room in front of him, a mixture of shocked expressions and amused ones filling his vision.
âI liked it better when we thought you hated her but, hyung, youâve been stalking her since your freshman year of high school?â Jongho asked cautiously.
It was a weird feeling bubbling inside Hongjoong, the primary one being embarrassment. He knew heâd sometimes unintentionally rant in their mindlink whenever he was upset but to make an almost decade long secret public to his pack, revealing the intimate details of how you slowly but surely ingrained yourself into not only his brain but his life until he felt like he was going crazy? It made him tear up, his face burn with a blush as he was finally forced to face the truth. He pushed you away but wanted you more than anything. He wanted to spend his years free to explore before finally settling down only to reject every girl that came close to him simply because they werenât you, and he took that anger out on you. What was he so mad about? The fact you stood by his side with a smile happily accepting him while he tried and failed to lust after other women? Was he that pathetic? He could admit now that he was and, if he could turn back time, he wouldâve introduced himself and walked you to class. Just the first step of fully accepting you.
âYouâre still ranting in the mindlink, you know?â Seonghwa said softly, regaining the once again lost focus of his alpha who was too consumed in his own pity to notice the tension died down, their gazes soft as they tried to sympathize with their leader.
âSorry. I wish none of you heard that stuff.â He admitted, sniffling as he realized heâd been crying, hand hurriedly wiping away tears from his cheeks.
âWell, itâs a good thing we did. We still think youâre a moron, but at least we know youâre feeling guilty about all of this.â
âDonât worry, Joong, if you know (Y/n) like we do, she always sees the best in people, so sheâll forgive you. But you still have to apologize.â San followed up Mingiâs words, wrapping an arm around Hongjoong shoulders while giving a bright smile in response to his weak one.
âSheâs my TA in Calc 3 and I have that class around noon tomorrow. She always stays after in case anyone has questions, so I can stall until you get there.â Yunho offered, Hongjoong feeling a slight warmth in his chest thinking about it all. Heâd let go of his insecurities, fix everything heâs done wrong, and finally have you as his. Tomorrow couldnât come fast enough.
And tomorrow did come, but you were nowhere to be found. When Hongjoong arrived to Yunhoâs class, he was met with a sympathetic apology on the account that you didnât show up that day, you werenât even at any of your other classes. The boys even tried to find you at work only to be met with a mob of your pissed coworkers led by Miyeon, threatening to rip their heads off if she saw their faces again. And that lasted for nearly 3 days, Hongjoongâs hope slowly dwindling away until he noticed two figures sneakily meeting halfway at the schoolâs entrance to exchange a large white cooler.
He recognized those bulky arms anywhere, and the thick Aussie accent was a dead giveaway as well, especially when it was followed by a distinct giggle. There was no mistaking it was Chan, but he could barely see the person with him, their voice low as they spoke to him and face hidden beneath a hood, but the scent emitting from them was strong, and beautiful, his eyes widening as he finally took it all in. You looked different, wearing a dark grey matching sweat suit which was a complete 180 from your usual attire, and you smelled faintly of passionfruit, possibly a change to your normal shampoo in an attempt to disguise yourself, but that thought only made his heart hurt more. Were you intentionally avoiding him? He could understand you hating him now but you were even ignoring the others in his pack, going from friends to complete strangers in a matter of hours and leaving them all devastated. He was going to fix this, here and now, if not for him and you than for his friends.
âJonghoâs been pretty upset about you not responding to his text. Itâd really help if you stopped by to at least let him know youâre okay.â Chan pleaded, giving you a dimpled smile and hopeful gaze that made it impossible for you to hide your blushing face and grin.
âI just need a little more time, Chris. Itâs like if you broke up with your mate and all the friends you made through her left you too. Except itâs me being broken up with by someone who was never my boyfriend and his friends came to me instead of me going to them. But, still, it hurts all the same.â You laughed slightly, trying to find some humor in the situation.
âYouâre the only person that still calls me Chris.â He commented, trying to redirect the conversation as you clearly werenât fine, neither of you noticing the burning glare just a few meters away.
âI just think it fits you best.â You admitted, neither of you breaking eye contact until you gasped, staring down to the box of food and drinks you bought.
âYou should hurry to practice. You need to eat beforehand otherwise youâll be weak after warmups alone. And I worked hard making those sandwiches and cutting that fruit, if it goes bad because you stayed here to cheer me up, Iâll really be mad.â You tried to put on your best scowl, your scolding undermined by his amused laughter.
âAlright, fine. Just stay safe, please?â You nodded, waving as you watched him turn to head to the schoolâs gymnasium, missing the way Chan glared at Hongjoong as he continued forward. Chan and Hongjoongâs packs were close, family almost, so the news of what Hongjoong did and why reached them in no time, and Chan was hoping today things would be fixed soon because, apart from you being the wrestling teamâs beloved personal chef, you were like a sister to him.
You wasted no time leaving the campus behind, ready to go back into the darkness of your bedroom to forget you existed. You really wish you could disappear, that the ground would split beneath you and swallow you whole, but you couldnât just leave when your phone was filled with calls and messages from friends and coworkers wondering where you were and if you were fine. So many people cared, what kind of person would you be to leave them all alone like this, especially when all they wanted was to help you? But being alone helped, trying to live life as normal as possible while adjusting to a Hongjoong-free lifestyle helped. It would take some time, but youâd find your normal someday. All you had to do was avoid-
â(Y/n)!â Your body froze.
He rarely called you by your name but his voice was distinct on its own, and it was the most sickly sweet thing youâve ever heard. You wanted to run, to never have him see you like this. Dear god, how did you even look right now? You felt like shit, you probably looked the part. Dammit, Hongjoong was right all along, you were shit. You were worse than shit, you were just pathetic. A pathetic, lovestruck loser itching to just turn and say hi, to have the conversation you always dreamed of but you knew that wouldnât happen. Heâll yell at you again. Heâll-
â(Y/n)? H-hiâŠâ Hongjoong said shyly, standing right in front of you as you shrank into yourself.
His brows furrowed as you looked away, mentally arguing with yourself as you went over the days of self-reflecting you did, trying to find some lesson from your solitude to aid in this situation and it was starting to scare him. You were never quiet with him, you always had something to say even if it wasnât important but, luckily, he had something important to say and hopefully youâd listen.
âI- T-the other dayâŠ. I w-wasâŠ. I-Iâm sorry.â He stammered out, this confession a lot harder than he thought, especially now that you were facing him, eyes just as innocent as the day he met you, but he couldnât run away this time.
âI donât know whatâs wrong with me, honestly. Everyone told me I was an idiot and I think theyâre right. I treated you like you were garbage for years, all because I didnât want to be mated so young. I just wanted to date around before I finally settled down with someone and, m-maybe I couldâve just said that, so you didnât have to wait around for me all these years but, I never hated you, and I canât hate you. I know you wonât forgive me right away but I think itâs only fair that I can be a good mate to you now.â
He swallowed hard, trying to suppress the desperate âpleaseâ he wanted to add as your pupils began to shake, almost as if you were a machine malfunctioning, none of your self-reflecting preparing you for this moment, the only thing coming to mind being some sad blog article you found during your second day of isolation. âForgiving and forgetting too soon is dangerous. Find yourselfâ. It wasnât what you wanted but maybe what you need, what he needed. So, without hesitation, you smiled brightly at him although it never reached your eyes, clearing your throat as you tried to keep your voice steady.
âHongjoong, I canât forgive you easily. I waited for you, I tried to make you accept me and it always ended up with me getting hurt. Honestly, if I just treated you like a regular crush, maybe we couldâve forgotten weâre meant to be together until after graduation or something.â You laughed awkwardly, wanting to look away as his eyes softened in the saddest way, but you needed to do this, eyes locked on his as you exhaled through your nose.
âI couldnât be by your side all the time, so whether you dated anyone is still a mystery to me but, Iâve been alone for seven years hoping youâd come around, and I think itâs time I take those years back. Iâm not sure if what you said counted as a rejection or if weâre still mates but, if we are, weâll come back to each other eventually. For now, I just need some time.â
You managed to walk past him without completely collapsing in tears, speed walking back to your apartment as you tried to swallow sobs, not even taking in the way Hongjoong stumbled to follow you, almost like a zombie as he attempted to plead for you to reconsider, to force himself to accept your decision but ask how long you needed, but he couldnât do that. He tried to picture himself in your shoes, seven years of pining only to be publicly humiliated by the person you were meant to spend the rest of your life with. He couldnât blame you for not forgiving him, and he sure as hell couldnât force you, so he let you go, trudging in the opposite direction to his two story apartment just to hide in his bedroom until he didnât feel like dying anymore.
But as more days passed and it only got harder for Hongjoong. He barely left his room but also never slept, every song he created was played in minor scales to fit his now melancholy life. The charisma he typically exuded was hidden with puffy red eyes from crying and a yellow knit sweater a few sizes too large for his body but it was the only thing that comforted him at this point, especially when knowing you had reconnected with everyone but him.
After exactly one week of distancing yourself from the world, you caved and meet with the boys individually (sans Hongjoong), apologizing for needing space although they completely understood, but the way each interaction ended made your guts churn with guilt. âStay safe, lunaâ, thatâs how all of them addressed you before they left, leaving you filled with the desire to return to how things were before. You missed your friends and, the fact your mate was finally ready to claim you, only made you want to forgive Hongjoong sooner. But you needed to be your own person for once. You had seven years worth of relationships to catch up on and you wouldnât let them keep you from that.
Except when they did.
You shouldâve known it was risky letting them know you had a date so soon, just some other human on campus that had yet found his soulmate. They sounded happy for you, Wooyoung going so far to ask where you met and where your date would be and what time, giving suggestions on what to say and wear since it was âyour firstâ. It was a sweet gesture, and you thought nothing of it, but that information meant everything to him which led to now, the boys huddled together in their living room with a slightly paler and sickly looking Hongjoong curled into the corner of their loveseat.
âSo theyâre going bowling tonight at 8:30? We could ask her about it tomorrow in case sheâs into him because hyung isnât looking too great.â Yeosang commented, everyone looking to Hongjoong as he managed to drown his entire body within the sweater, only his head visible as he stared ahead like some lost puppy.
âHeâs just weak from not being around her for so long, but their bond is still there so heâs fine. But we have nothing to worry about. She wonât fall in love with him so donât get too involved, sheâll just stop talking to us again if we meddle too much.â Seonghwa warned, a chorus of âOkaysâ confirming their dismissal as they all stood to retreat to their bedrooms.
âWait, who is she going out with anyways? Thereâs only 10 other humans at that school.â Mingiâs question cause everyone to freeze, the silence in the room contrasting with the faint answer Woooyung gave in their mindlink, Hongjoong turning to look at him with hurt and pain.
âWhy didnât you say it was Yugyeom?!â
âI did! Just not to you, until now because I forgot to tune you out.â He said shyly, flinching as Hongjoong ran past him and right out their front door, none of them sure of what to do at that point.
It was such a minor yet major detail. Kim Yugyeom was admittedly the most wanted person any of them could think of. Human girls wanted him, werewolf girls wanted him, most guys couldnât help but stare whenever he passed by. He was gorgeous with eyes that sparkled every time he smiled. He spoke about his soulmate with so much passion despite never meeting her, following his words with how heâd treat any girl before her with the same love and care. It was a pick up line meant to hook any hopelessly romantic girl in, the sweetest way to say their relationship wouldnât last. But this was Kim Yugyeom, they knew it was only meant with good intentions, not wanting to string someone along with the false hope theyâd be together forever. And thatâs exactly what you needed. To explore while knowing youâd always come back to Hongjoong. But thatâs not what Hongjoong wanted. He didnât want you dating anyone else, finding temporary happiness when he was supposed to give you a lifetime of it. And humans were more flexible with their soulmates, they had the privilege to move one without the pain or withdrawals of losing their mate. Werewolves just died if they were rejected, heartbreak and loneliness consuming them, so there was no telling how your heart would react to someone exactly like you. Maybe youâll fall in love with him. Maybe heâll abandon his soulmate for you once he learns how amazing you are. Maybe Hongjoong would die from lack of food and sleep before he even reached your apartment, which he was still sprinting full speed towards. It was only 7:30pm, meaning he had an hour before you and Yugyeom went out, but he didnât have a plan. He had no idea what he was doing, but he needed to stop you before you found yourself in love with someone else.
It was like some scene in a drama, Hongjoongâs chest heaving as he finally came to a stop just outside your apartment. His body felt like giving out as he climbed the two flights of stairs to your door, only to find you waving shyly to Yugyeom just as he turned away, trying not to lock eyes with Hongjoong but Hongjoongâs eyes were only trained on you, yours finding his as a panicked look crossed your face. Should you look away? Go back inside? What was he even doing there? You never told the boys your address⊠You gasped as he approached you, swallowing hard as you tried to remain calm, but how could you stay calm when you finally got a good look at him?
âOh my god, are you okay?â You didnât hesitate to ask, stepping further from your door to examine him, reaching for his face only to stumble back to your original position. You were making great progress, you canât do that now.
âIâve been better, but even then I wasnât fine.â He said with a dry chuckle, your lips curling into a fake smile to not show how much his appearance affected you. He looked like he was on the brink of death. You knew wolves would get sick without their mates, but was it really killing him? Were you killing him?
âJoongi-Uhm, Hongjoong, how about you sit down? You look like youâre going to faint.â You offered, stepping back to allow him inside, watching him stumble past you and straight to your sofa as if he owned the place.
It was such an awkward moment for you, watching the poor boy curl into himself as his sweater practically became his body, a sigh leaving your lips as you shut your door. Instead of healing yourself, you had to heal him. It was oddly pitiful but your instincts screamed at you to do it.
Hongjoong shut his eyes as he eased into your sofa, feeling more comfortable than he was in his own home, even more so with your scent invading his senses, your body warmth radiating onto his as you carefully took a seat, trying to figure out what to do.
âDo you need food, or water? Or a doctor?â You asked, the giggle he let out this time weak but still enough to make your heart beat a bit faster.
âI just need you near me.â He admitted.
You let out a squeak as he shamelessly fell into your lap, head comfortably resting against your thighs as he laid face up. You couldnât stop your hand from easing through his unnaturally colored locks, melting at how soft they were, bottom lip trapped under your teeth as you had to fight off the desire to cup his face. Youâve never gotten this close to him and he wasnât telling you to go away, instead letting out content purrs as he nuzzled closer to you, your eyes burning with unshed tears. Why couldnât he just want you from the start? Youâd wouldâve been able to hold him like this all the time, to see him happy and healthy rather than a shell of his former self. But he didnât want you, and now he was at your apartment just to keep himself from dying. It was silly to think he cared about you as much as he did himself.
âOf course you do.â You whispered, laughing bitterly as your hand left his hair, moving to his arm to ease him back up into a sitting position.
You couldnât get past him no matter how hard you tried, nor did you want to, but every word he said, everything heâs done, followed you like a ghost haunting some poor unsuspecting soul. Why did you have to love someone who didnât love you the same? Why was this your life?
âCan you just hold me a little longer? P-please?â He asked with a cute whine to his voice.
You sighed and grabbed his arm, gently pulling him back into his previous position, fingers massaging his scalp as he finally opened his eyes to look at you. You were beautiful, even with the frown lines etched into your face. He wonder how long theyâve been there, especially when heâs only seen you smiling. Maybe you spent your alone time more upset than he thought. Where you upset before he came? You couldnât be when Yugyeom was here, no one could be upset with him around. Except Hongjoong. He felt a grudge building inside him just from the mere thought of him with you. He felt like interrogating you on what he was doing here in the first place and why you gave your address out to just anyone, but it wasnât his place to ask and probably wouldnât be for a while, but jealousy and rage was all he felt so any reasonable thinking was thrown out the window.
âI donât want you to see Yugyeom anymore.â He said definitely, your eyes widened as you stared at him incredulously, an amused giggle leaving your lips.
âThatâs not for you to choose, Hongjoong. I told you I need time-â
âThose seven years youâve been waiting I couldnât be with anyone else. I always compared every girl I met to you and none of them came close to being as perfect, now I have to watch you date some dance major with pretty eyes because I was an insecure dumbass? He has a soulmate, and heâs always going to choose them no matter how much you like each other, so why not save your feelings? Iâll wait as long as you want me to, but just donât fall in love with anyone else.â
You tried so hard to hide your smile. This wasnât something you typically liked, possessive guys being on the list of things you found annoying, but considering it was Hongjoong, his soft eyes hard and sharp as their hue seemed to go pitch black as his words were both sweet and demanding, made you fall in love just a little more than you already were. You wanted to take this as his confession, as a truce in your previous one-sided enemyship, to tell him that you told Yugyeom you couldnât go out with him because you could only see yourself with Hongjoong, but you needed time. Not time to date and explore the way you thought he had, but to watch him work as hard as you did to prove he was ready and willing to love you. It was a little malicious, sure, but it was all in good fun. Heâd always be your mate after all.
âI donât know, Hongjoong, you really hurt meâŠâ
âIt hurt knowing I wasnât with you.â Your smile cracked through, causing his own to appear, your game already over.
âAnd how do you think I felt? You think you can make up seven years worth of waiting so easily?â
You squealed as he shot up, magically seeming more alive than when he arrived, eyes full of life and his lips and cheeks the same rosy color as when you met him, hands warm and soft as he cupped your face.
âGood thing I have forever to do it.â
The silence was comfortable but unbearable, especially as he hesitated to lean closer, your lips puckering to guide him but he didnât seem to be catching on and, when he did, you shifted back, laughing awkwardly as you stared at one another, both of you taking a deep breath as you finally closed the gap between you, a weird electric sensation you could only dream of as your lips slowly grew accustom to one another, moving so slow yet feeling so urgent. It was all still new to the both of you, romance and dating only now becoming part of your lives, but it was exciting knowing that you had years ahead of you to perfect it, your entire lives dedicated to loving one another. And it only took a seven year crush to get you here.

SEVENTEEN - WITCH OF THE WOODS
welcome to my first little âchoose your own adventureâ series!! lol
I will (obviously) not do these all at once, so stay tuned!!!
If you want a particular scenario or member (etc.) to be done first or added, feel free to drop a request in my asks!!
enjoy!!
Living out in the woods has its perks.
First off, nobody visits. Those who do have to be directed to your home, meaning you know them well. No salesmen, no solicitors, no Girl Scouts.
Second of all, nobodyâs there to ask questions about the plumes of purple smoke that occasionally come out of your chimney or the screeching noises that bounce through the woods as you coax baby phoenixes out of their shells (theyâre nasty when theyâre young).
Third: you didnât have to ever interact with a single human again if you didnât want to. Not one little old lady digging her nose into where it didnât belong, or calling the cops because your damn birds decided to have a screech-fest again. None. Zero.
Okay. Maybe theyâre all the same reason. But still.
Peace, quiet, and privacy.
You have a few visitors, every so often. Thereâs Hongjoong, who visits once a month or so to get away from the rest of his pack (werewolves are so clingy sometimes and Wooyoung bites too much, apparently). He stays for a little food and some gifts for the others before slipping off into his wolf form to run back into the woods.
Felix visits often as well, his adventures requiring his plants be taken care of while heâs away. Youâve known the forest spirit since you were tiny, with his sun-dappled cheeks and healing smile- so he knows he can trust you with his precious babies while he goes to rescue some grove from humans with chainsaws. He sends Jeongin with the plants, sometimes, the siren swimming up the nearby stream to deliver them with a tiny wave, accepting a cookie or potion with a teeny âthank youâ before swimming off again.
Chuu visits once in a blue moon, the faerie only stopping to trade potions and stories before hurriedly vanishing into the woods, sending a shimmering wave back as she eagerly continues her explorations to help the citizens of the forest.
And of course, your other witch friends, who often very exuberantly busted through your door at the most inconvenient times (looking at you, Mark and Jaemin). Theyâd pet your birds and help clean up your work station if itâs deemed too cluttered before leaving as quickly as they came, only stopping by on their way to the city (you never did really understand why they liked interacting with humans). Theyâd brought one to meet you once, a tall man named Johnny, who was (admittedly) very polite and handsome. Heâd known witches before, so it was kind of cheating- he wasnât a normal human free of any magical contact. Mark even admitted that theyâd let Johnny help with spells (theyâre insane).
But truly, it had been a long time since youâd met a real human. Youâd heard stories, sure, but you preferred to keep to yourself in the woods. Witches werenât much different than humans on a surface level, and often interacted with witches just fine without either party having a problem, but somehow being near humans made your skin prickle. Jaemin always joked that it was a soul connection, proving your most powerful magic was with interacting with humans, but you always shot him a glare before returning to your spells.
You prayed he wasnât right. Finding your soul connection was a grueling process, and you enjoyed your mixed magics enough to ignore whatever instinctive calls you felt in your chest, wanting more time to enjoy and try all the options, see what magic sources you could tap into.
And that was the way things were, for a long time. You tended to your creatures, made potions and herb blends that multihued birds picked up to take back to their owners, and slept peacefully as the frogs croaked outside, your own version of a bustling city.
That is, until he arrived.

Hi babes!
Iâm finally posting the George fic that I was talking about and I am so excited for you to read it!
please, reblog if you like it, it helps me grow
disclaimer: my knowledge of werewolves is based only on a little internet research and the tv series named teen wolf, the episode named Anchors inspired me to write this
pairing: george weasley x werewolf!fem!reader
word count: 6k
Y/N - your name; L/N - last name; Y/F/N - your friendâs name
warnings: swearing, mentions of sex, (kind of) panicking
summary: y/n is afraid of who she became, thinking that now sheâs unlikable, but her new abilities prove her wrong, making her hear the boyâs talking and... the beating of his heart
âHey, heâs staring again.â Your friend noticed the boy, who was standing across the hall with his brother and their friends.
Who was she talking about? George Weasley, of course, the person whose heart you could hear from miles away.
You met him a while ago, wandering through the halls at night, trying to sort some things out while he and his brother were bringing their another prank to life. Of all people attending Hogwarts, you bumped into them.Â
You never thought that someone, besides Prefects, would be seen in the corridors so you didnât pay attention, focusing only on your thoughts. No wonder you got quite overwhelmed when you hit your head with something, and it definitely wasnât a wall.
âAre you okay?â The redheaded boy asked you, worried about your well-being. âIâm sorry, I just couldnât take my eyes off that Zonkoâs new item. Are you sure you are fine? I can walk you to madam Pomfrey.âÂ
âOh, donât worry about me.â You said, looking at the moon. âIâm heading to my dormitory, donât want to bother you and your brother.â You nodded at him, so he told you his name.
âIâm Fred. The more handsome one. Also, the funnier one, because Iâve just made out an amazing plan. Care to join us? I swear you will not regret it. â He encouraged you, and you didnât want to be rude, finally agreeing to go with them. A couple of minutes more outside the dorm canât hurt you, right?
The thing is, you spent almost the whole night preparing pranks with them and idly talking, joking about Snape and Filch.Â
The problem is, you haven't talked with them since that accident. Sometimes you exchanged a few words in classes you had together but nothing more.
So then why did George have a crush on you?
You asked yourself that question many times since you first heard him confessing his feelings to Fred. Every time this boy got closer to you or touched you accidentally, his heart was beating so fast like a drum. Your heart has been just as fast as his, but he couldnât know that. You didnât even know if it was because you shared his feelings, or did just knowing what he feels towards you, made you that anxious.Â
âI know. Iâm still not able to control these new super senses. I saw him a while ago. Not to mention that his heart makes my ears hurt. â You admitted, holding your head because all these sounds were giving you a headache.
âWell, maybe if youâd finally talk to him, your senses wouldnât be a big problem. Perhaps if you canât manage to control them, you should ask someone who might help you. Go to professor Lupin.â
âBut he doesnât know that Iâm a werewolf. Iâm still not comfortable when someone mentions that. â You said, scared of what youâd become. You knew that sooner or later you were supposed to reach for help, but you felt insecure and didnât want to recall that night when you were bitten.
âHeâs coming over here.â Your friend interrupted your thought, reminding you of George.Â
âNo way, we have to run.â You started packing your bag, standing up from sitting on the bench.Â
âToo late.â She added, making you turn around.
âHello girls, howâs your day?â He asked nicely, staring at you constantly.Â
âBad.â You whispered.
âGetting better.â Your friend interrupted you, because she knew how much you wanted to walk away, and she couldnât let you, knowing that you have to confront him anyway.Â
âGreat, I wanted to ask you a question.â He pointed at you, smiling widely. âWould you go on a date with me?â He scratched his back, getting stressed. You heard his heart pounding, which made you even angrier. The sound was so loud that you werenât able to hear anything other than that, feeling like you could pass out at any moment.Â
âShe would love to.â Your friend took the lead, which made the boy wonder why you werenât responding. âSheâs just as stressed as you are. Sorry for speaking in her name, but she talked about you for so long. I hope you understand.â
âOh, no worries. Meet me after the lessons on Friday. Iâll be waiting near to the great hall. â He explained, addressing it to you, adding a short âsee you laterâ after his brother called after him.
âYou should thank me.â Your friend addressed you, asking you to sit down.
âGosh, his heart was beating so fast. I couldnât focus.â You told her, relaxing a bit. âAnd no, I will not thank you. Canât you understand why Iâm avoiding him? I thought I told you.â
âNo, I can. I just think that youâre wrong. â She told you, winking at you.
âThink about it. If heâll find out who I am, he wonât talk to me again. Iâd rather stare at him, being miles away and aware that he likes me too than admitting who I am and getting rejected, him not being able to look at me again.â You admitted, hearing your voice cracking slowly.Â
âYou idiot. You really think that werewolves are some type of creature that cannot function normally? Youâre here for centuries, managing everything somehow, I bet that there were werewolves married to Muggles, to wizards, and many more. Donât think of yourself as a beast, some kind of unlovable creature. Thatâs not what you are. Youâre perfectly normal. By the way, bold of you to assume that heâs the first one to judge and wonât accept you.â She gave you a speech, trying to cheer you up.
âThatâs exactly what I think. Can you blame me? Iâm still not used to this, I never really talked with any other werewolves.â
âThen stop! See, youâre also prejudging him. Thereâs only one way to find out what heâs thinking about you. Youâll tell him the truth. But for now, we have to find Lupin.â
â
You were not ready yesterday, so after your friend spotted Lupin, you decided to hide. You wanted to be prepared for every topic that he will discuss with you, deciding that youâll ask him to stay for a little talk when the DADA lesson finishes.Â
âCan I speak with you for a moment, professor?â You asked, trying to sound quiet.Â
âYes, you may. Whatâs the problem, miss L/N?âÂ
âIf youâre going to ask questions, then I might stay here for a little longer than â a moment â.â You joked, secretly being scared of admitting the truth.
âAnyway. As you may know, I am a werewolf. Before you ask, I prefer not to tell you how it happened. Iâm still learning, and youâre the only one that came to mind. I thought that you might help me.â
âYou shouldâve come earlier. Werenât you curious earlier about your abilities and how to control them?â
âI was. But I was also too afraid to say something. Werewolves arenât considered as the nicest creatures, I wanted to avoid gossip. I still want to. â You started a monologue, watching closely if Lupin is paying attention to you. âThe main reason for me coming to have a little chat with you is not only to ask about my abilities. Iâm invested in hearing. Because I cannot understand why some sounds are clearer and come to my mind often? What makes them so?â
âDo you have something specific in your mind?â He asked, being eager to help you.
âSomeoneâs heart beating. I mean, I hear a lot of sounds, but this one is haunting me, even if that person is completely in a different place. Am I losing my mind? Or did this happen to you as well?â
âThis person is your anchor, then. The one who can calm you down, who can help you control all of your new skills. But it might change through the years, you donât have one anchor for eternity. Everything is based on your feelings. â Remus explained calmly.
âWho was your anchor? You donât have to tell me if youâre not feeling comfortable with it, after all, Iâm just another Hogwarts student. â You asked out of curiosity, wishing that he will open up to you.
âIt used to be someone who was my friend. I donât think I have an anchor anymore. â He answered, being rather peaceful and not bothered by it, however, you wanted to comfort him, asking for permission to hug him.
âYouâll find another anchor. You said that we can have it more than once, right? I bet that somewhere there is someone special, whose ability is to calm you down. â You smiled shyly.
âUm, eh, weâre not here to be upset. Letâs focus on your issue.â He said, wanting to change the topic. âWhat you need to control your abilities is physical contact with that special someone. I canât assure you that it will work after the first attempt, but it certainly might help.
âBut that takes time, I think I was able to control most parts of it after months. Still, some things are not under my control. Anyway, donât worry about that, everything has its flaws. If youâll excuse me, I have an important meeting soon, I don't want to be late. If you want, we can meet again after one of my lessons.â Lupin bid you goodbye, making you leave his classroom.
As you were left alone, you started thinking about the conversation that happened seconds ago. It did not make sense to you.
How could George be your anchor?Â
Sure, you had a crush on him for a while, but nothing ever happened between you two. That one night, which you spent preparing pranks with twins was fun, nothing else. You decided to not make any more friends, because you remembered how Y/F/N reacted when you said that youâre a werewolf. So you drifted away not only for your own good, but also for his.Â
Why him? Why isnât it your friend, or even someone from your family who is your anchor? And how are you going to explain it to him? âHey, Iâm a werewolf, and youâre the only one that keeps me sane? You have to stay with me forever, otherwise I might go crazy?âÂ
No way. You couldnât see it.
At the same time, George was calmly waiting for you next to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. He noticed that you stayed for a little talk with Remus, but he also was eager to talk to you.Â
Your date was supposed to happen tomorrow, and he wanted to make sure that youâre comfortable with him, and that you have something to talk about. He was afraid that maybe somehow tomorrow you guys will be stressed, so chatting the day before, no strings attached and just getting to know each other might lighten the mood.Â
âHey.â He started the conversation without thinking about it. âHeyâ? Couldnât you think about anything better? Something more creative? Now she will think that you were stalking her, you dumbass, he thought, standing in front of you.
Never was he that close to you, or maybe just didnât pay attention when you were around, but now he noticed the height difference between the both of you. He found it really hard not to kneel down, so he could see your eyes gleaming. Although he considered it cute and funny, he decided not to mock it. Well, not right now, since he had other reasons to talk to you and was so fixated about it.
âHello George, what could have brought you here?â You asked, not bothering to look at him, because you would have to keep your head up.
âWe just had the same lesson. I sit in front of you. â He explained, thinking that you didnât notice that detail. If the tall, ginger boy can be considered as a detail.
âOh, I know. But the lesson ended 20 minutes ago. â You said, wondering if he will say what he has in mind or will just play pretend.
âActually, I wanted to talk to you. Nothing deep, only to diffuse the tension before our meeting tomorrow. â He scratched his head, walking slowly by your side.
âMeeting you say, and whatâs that?â You teased him a little, finding it funny and adorable that he was afraid to use the word âdateâ.
âYou know, when a group of people, two and above, meets somewhere. God, I was scared that Iâm going to be the dumb one. Now I can relax. But I have to admit, I expected more from you. â He joked, coping with his fear.
âOkay, so whatâs the pre-meeting topic that made you come to me?â
âActuallyâŠâ He began, but you interfered.
âShit. My friend is there.â You pointed at the end of the corridor, where she was talking with a Ravenclaw from your year. âWe have to hide, Iâll explain.â You pushed him to the next door that appeared in front of you, finding yourself in Filchâs office. Great.
âCan you explain now? I thought that you like her. â He asked out of curiosity.
âI do, but I donât want her to interject in our conversation. Shh, I think someoneâs coming. We should hide. â You advised, being pretty sure that itâs Filch. Who else would come to his office? You made George hide behind the huge bookshelf, noticing how little space there was.
âYou know, we could also say a spell to make us invisible.â He laughed at you, trying to find a comfortable position.
âToo late. Shut your mouth. â You both tried to stay silent, hearing the sound of someone opening the door. George was almost sitting, because if he would stand normally, his head could be seen above the bookshelf.Â
His eyes were focused on you and your face in general, which made you hold your laughs way harder than you thought it would. If either of you made a sound, youâd end up in detention, and Filch would make sure that you get the worst punishment.Â
Fortunately, he only came to get one thing from his desk, so as soon as you heard the door shut, George suddenly moved, hitting his head on the shelf.Â
âShh.â You said, listening closely to the steps that were getting closer.
âAh, Mr. Norris, I forgot about you! But you didnât have to hit the door so hard. I hope you forgive me. â He said to the cat that stayed in his office, but this time he took it with him.
While they were going out of the office, you had to silence the boy, who was struggling because of pain. It was not your intention to show your werewolf abilities, however, he looked as it really hurt him, wanting to scream.Â
âShow me the back of your head.â You demanded, when the two of you went out of the hideaway. You slowly took his head with one hand, the other one intertwining with his fingers. He had no idea what you were doing. It was clever of you to take his hand, making it look like you were comforting him, while you took some of his pain away. Fortunately, you were wearing your long robes, so your veins were not visible. Otherwise, the boy wouldâve seen how you were taking the sore, making the veins look blackish.
If it werenât for your location and the cause of his headache, both of you would be on the way to the hospital wing. But how could you explain that George hit the bookshelf in Filchâs office? Well, you couldnât. Good for you that the boy did not question your methods, he probably didnât even notice the thing that you had done.Â
âThat was weird. But also hilarious.â George admitted, laughing way too loud, when you carefully opened the door to check whatâs going on outside the office. After you made sure that no one was staring, you took his hand again, making him go after you.
While wandering through corridors, you noticed it is almost empty.
âWhy is no one here?â You asked, not expecting the ginger boy to answer.
âYou know, I think everyone is having classes. Weâre going to be late.âÂ
âOh no, weâre not going at all.â You replied quickly. âNot in the mood to get all the attention today, apparently the world is against me. We gotta be smarter, letâs play truant.â You tried to encourage George, but he already seemed to be in.
âThat sounds great! Now I really do feel like weâre soulmates.â
âYou doubted it? Wait, you never even mentioned that to me. â You craved for an explanation, while George wasnât so fond of telling you more.
âDonât worry, itâs just a silly word. I intended to ask you something. Why didnât you say anything when I asked for a date? Is it because you didnât want to, or find me too intimidating?â
âDo you want the answer that will make you look bad, or do I have to take all the blame?â
âDepends which is the correct one.â He replied teasingly.
âI mean, I did think it was a little weird that you asked me, because after the pranks that night we talked only occasionally⊠how could I possibly be your soulmate? How could you grow to like me when you donât know me at all? â Yeah, you might regret that later, but you had to be honest.
âMerlin, Iâm going to sound like a weirdo, but I do know you. At least I think so. You showed the real yourself that night, being careless and funny, besides in most of my classes Iâm focusing on you, not the topic. Iâm definitely sounding like a psycho, but you always sit in front of me or behind me, joking with your friend and I cannot help but hear more than a little and laugh quietly. Iâve liked you since that damn night and got to know you, in an unusual way, but still felt like weâre similar. Thatâs why I had to shoot my shot. Please donât leave. â He said, grabbing my hand, afraid of the vision that I might freak out.
âCan you shut up?â You replied in a harsh way, later realizing what you had done. âShit, I didnât mean⊠I just⊠you can speak. Iâm just⊠Can you calm down? It sounds like your heart is going to run away from your body.âÂ
âAm I sweating or what?â He asked, curious how did you notice that his heart was fluttering.
âOh no I actually⊠I can hear your heart beating. Very, very fast. And that youâre swallowing now the gulp of saliva, because youâre scared. I even hear professor Flitwick explaining the cheering charm to the 3rd years. And that Hagrid is coming, I think heâll appear in this corridor in two minutes.â
âYour eyes have just changed from their natural color. What is going on? Is something wrong? I am worried, I want to help you darling. â He tried to comfort you, so you didnât even notice the nickname. âAre you an Animagus? Metamorphmagus?â
âIâm a werewolf. Iâm a werewolf, George. Iâm so sorry, I know, I shouldâve told you earlier. â You admitted the truth, now being the one whoâs afraid.
âNo way! Thatâs so cool! Iâm glad that I know! How many people know? Is this why you talked with Lupin? Can you show me your claws? And your transformation? â The ginger got way too excited, so your job was to tone him down.Â
âShh, remember that weâre in corridors, when we should be in classes. No one can know that weâre here. Iâm so sorry for saying this, but I canât show you. Not only is it irresponsible, but.. I canât control anything since I was bitten. It might be because Iâm that creature for the short term. I havenât learned to control it yet, no one was kind enough to show me. Oh wait, the only werewolf that I know and trust is Remus and I told him the news just today.â
âBut you told me that you hear my heart beating... Itâs one of your abilities, right? â He asked curiously.
âYeah, it is. See, I either donât know how to do things or theyâre out of my control. I can smell like everything in this corridor right now, and trust me, when itâs mixed, itâs awful. I told you, I hear not only you, but even whatâs happening in the charms classroom that is in front of us,â you took a deep breath, trying to gather your wits,
âI also see the flying lessons from that window and I can recall every face of the students that are now attending that lesson. The problem is, that I donât want to. This information is totally not needed by me, but I canât control it.â
âI canât decide yet what I want to smell or hear⊠itâs really hard. Thatâs why I couldnât answer you when you asked me on a date. I heard your heart, and it caused my headache, thatâs why my friend took the lead and talked with you that day.â
âOh, donât worry about it! Now that I know what was happening, I can relax. Should I say sorry for the sound of my heart? I didnât want toâŠâ
âItâs okay.â You interjected, comforting him, while itâs you who needed the comfort. âItâs not that bad, since you consider us soulmates, me, remembering how your heart beat sounds, itâs quite romantic.â You smiled shyly, avoiding eye contact.
âCan I?â George started, but took a break, wishing that you know what he has in his mind. You didnât, so you stared at him with interest. âCan I listen to your heart? I wish I could remember yours too.â
You nodded at him, but the boy was too awkward to start this. You took his hand, leading it slowly to your chest, getting out of your comfort zone.Â
âYou know, maybe you should rest your head on me. It wonât look as weird as you're almost touching my breasts. â You started laughing, wondering if youâre taking this too far.
âAlright then.â He got a little more confident, doing as you told him so. âAnd I was hoping that we were going to have sex.â
âAnd youâre my soulmate?? Man, I would never do it in public. In front of the charms' classroom? What if Flitwick or students⊠I canât even say it. Youâre something else, Weasley.â You patted him on his head, which was still resting on your arm.
âI was going to tell you something really important. But since you got too cocky, youâre gonna have to wait âtil our date. â You started, feeling ready to explain to him about the anchor. You didnât change your mind, because you will tell him anyway. Since the two of you got way too comfortable around each other, you decided to tease him a little.Â
âOh please, donât leave me hanging on. I can give you⊠something. â He tried to convince you, taking some sweets from his pocket.
âNo way, I know what youâre giving me. Itâs Zonkoâs hiccough sweet. Wonât happen. â You replied, declining his offer. The bell ringing made you realize that the lesson has ended and the two of you should hide or at least make an excuse why didnât you show up to your classes. Not only for the teachers, but for the friends' curiosity. What were you going to say? It seemed easier to just disappear than explain everything.Â
âIâm sorry, but Fred is watching us and I think we have something to talk about.â George got up, waving to his brother. âSee you tomorrow then? Please, donât be lateâ He added, lending you a hand in case you wanted to stand up, but you kindly declined it, deciding to sit for a little longer.
âWhere were you? I was freaking out until I noticed that George was also absent. Good for you that itâs the transfiguration you had missed, not potions. Snape would kill you, or make you clean his class. Now, tell me what happened. In detail, please. â She begged you, making you sigh at that statement, knowing that you two will probably miss another lesson, talking about your new friend, or, more like, soulmate?
â
The date was about to begin in 30 minutes, you were sitting calmly in your dorm, listening to your friendâs rambling.
âWhat do you mean by saying that you have âa lot of timeâ? Is thirty minutes a lot? You arenât ready at all! At least change your shirt.â
âWell, I wanted to dress up. Then I started thinking if I should wear something casual, since itâs just Friday night, and weâre staying in school, or should I wear something elegant, to make this date more serious. Next I had a little panic attack for the same reason. Finally, I decided that Iâm not gonna dress up. Too much pressure.â
âSo youâre going in the same clothes that you were wearing for the whole day?â She asked you, wishing youâll decide to change.
âYeah, I donât want to make it official. Weâll see what is going to happen.â
âAt least brush your teeth for Merlinâs sake! I bet this boy is ready for something more than listening to your heart. â She joked, making you terrified.
âDamn, what if he really does? What If I wonât be able to control myself and change into a werewolf? That would be so humiliating.â
âNo! Iâm sorry, donât panic. I think heâll be excited to see you in that way. You mentioned that he was very cool about that. â She tried to calm you.
âNo, you donât understand. I canât control myself. What If I harm him? I donât want to... If something like that happens, then for sure he wonât keep in touch with me. â You said, pacing around the dorm to not freak out.
âOh trust me, this boy is weird. And he likes taking risks. I bet that he will laugh about it and get excited. â She summed it up, wishing that it might cheer me up.
Because of her, you finally decided to get up and change clothes. You still wanted to be comfortable, hoping that casual clothes would fit in that situation, whatever it may be that George has planned.Â
After saying goodbye to your friend, you found yourself in the corridors, walking slowly, focusing on breathing slowly. Thereâs no need to worry, right?
A couple of minutes later you noticed George, standing in front of the Great Hall, just as he said to you earlier, leaning against the wall. He was looking down at the floor, bouncing his head, probably to the song that he couldnât get rid of. You did not want to interrupt, enjoying the view from afar, but you knew you had no choice.
âStressed?â You asked him, watching as his eyes slowly looked upon you. âNot any longer. You came. â He smirked, asking for permission to take my hand. âWhy wouldnât I? Yesterday was fun. â You admitted, being curious where the two of you are heading to.Â
Before you realized you were outside of Hogwarts, George led you to the location where everything was prepared. You couldnât help but wonder what he has in his mind. Is he worried that you may not like that? Is he excited to show you? Is it still a date or just a friendly meeting?Â
Seconds later the view was starting to get familiar the Black Lake was for sure mesmerizing, but what amazed you more was a huge, colorful blanket with so much food on it.Â
âDid you make it?â You asked, noticing that a flower crown was also laying on the blanket. âWhich charm did you use?â The boy flushed at this question, feeling embarrassed.
âOh, I didnât use any charm. I got anxious after everything was prepared, so I had to get my hands busy. We were making flower crowns when Ginny was little, so I was worried that I might not do it properly, because it was long ago, but Iâm actually proud of that one. â George explained everything to you, starting to gain his confidence back, seeing that you liked what he had done. He helped you put it on your head, and then you sat down, looking at swans swimming in the lake.
âDo you think that we will eat everything? It looks like a feast for the whole school, or at least for one of the houses. â The food in front of you was disappearing very, very slowly. Although George was eating all the time, the blanket was still full of all kinds of food. At first, you werenât eager to try this food, knowing that George might have done something with it, but when he reached for the snacks, you followed his actions.Â
Talking with him was really pleasant, you felt weirdly comfortable around him, but still the anchor thing was haunting you. Sometimes you couldnât focus, thinking how are you going to explain it to him. It wasnât that hard to make words come out of your mouth. What worried you was the commitment. Do you have to be his girlfriend immediately after that confession? Does that strengthen the bond between you two? Or will it mean nothing to him?
You could admit that you liked him. A lot. But those words sounded like you expected him to be more than your friend, and you did not want to rush things. Maybe youâll consider telling it to him after the date? Depends on if itâs going to be good or end awkwardly?Â
You decided to brush it off, asking out of nowhere.
âGeorge, whatâs like to prank people? Do you feel excited or embarrassed while making them?â
âDonât tell me youâve never pranked someone.â He said seriously, but seeing your face made him realize that you werenât joking as well.
âNo way. We have to prank someone together. Get up. Plans are changed.â He ordered, making sure that you do what he told you to, and then throwing the spell that made the blanket disappear.
âDid someone get under your skin lately?â Weasley said, probably having the plan already made in his head.
âFilch is yelling at me every day. Apparently Mr. Norris is not fond of my Kneazle.â
âAnd youâre letting him treat you like that? We gotta do something.âÂ
Going back to Hogwarts was quick and exciting. You never pranked anyone but you heard a lot of stories about the twins doing it, and having a chance to make it with one of them next to you, made you hope that itâs going to be fun. George decided that youâre gonna make a potion that will make Filch speak nonsense, it is Babbling Beverage.Â
To do this, you had to sneak into the potions classroom, which wasnât the easiest task, but definitely the interesting one.Â
Joking with Weasley was really easy, this boy was a comedian. Spending time with him opened your eyes, that not everything has to be taken seriously in life. He could make fun of anything, yet you felt comfortable with him, because he knew when he should stop.Â
Collecting all the things needed to brew this potion created a silence between you two, because you focused on the responsibility to make it perfect. Considering the fact that neither of you were good in potions, doing all of this was a challenge. But you knew it was worth it. For all the things Filch said to you, offending you every day, you waited for the sweet, sweet revenge.Â
Finally, feeling ready, you broke the silence.Â
âGeorge, I have to say something. Please donât make fun of me.â
âNo worries darling. I literally came to you and asked you out even though we didnât talk much. If you didnât make fun of me, then I wonât do it to you.â He admitted, taking the ladle out of your hands.
âHow much do you know about werewolves?â You started slowly, not wanting to get to the point so quickly.
âNot much. Just that you and Remus are the ones. And that something happens when thereâs a full moon. Do you want to say that I should learn more? Because I could do that for you. â He replied, like it wasnât a big thing, but it made you smile wide.
âOh, you donât have to.â You said, not wanting to put the pressure on him. âYou know, thereâs a thing called an Anchor.â You started, taking a deep breath to think what you should say.
âAnd whatâs that?â He asked out of curiosity, wishing that you could explain everything now, because he hated living with the unawareness. âYou can trust me.â He added, taking your palm in his and rubbing it slowly with his thumb.
âI donât know how to say this. Iâm nervous. It... itâs a thing, or a person... actually, it is a person, who can calm the werewolf. They donât have to be next to the creature, just the thought of them makes the werewolf control everything, making them able to not transform into the beast... you know. â You started messing up the words, feeling incredibly stressed, and the fact that George was staring deep in your eyes, didnât help you at all.
âSorry to bother you, but we have to wait one hour for this ingredient to get warmer. We can sit in the storeroom then.â  He took off his jacket, putting it on the floor to make the place a bit more cozy.
You sat next to him, staying silent, knowing that when he interrupted you, it could mean that heâs not interested in the werewolf things. âWhat you said about the anchor... I think itâs pretty romantic. But why did you mention it to me?âÂ
âDonât make me say it Weasley. I really donât want to. I donât even think I can. â You tried to make it obvious that itâs him, but he clearly wanted you to admit it out loud.
âNo way, is it Snape? Thatâs why weâre sitting here? Or is it Filch? And you want to show him the affection through the pranks? You're a weirdo, Y/N.â He laughed.
âAnd you clearly donât know what I have in mind.â You said, getting the confidence you gained lately.
âDo you mean youâre going to change tonight? Should I run? Or try to keep you calm? â He was asking.
âIf someoneâs going to be that dumb, I might harm him. Just in case. â You tried to tease him back, not wanting to say those words.
âCan I kiss you? These threats sound so hot when it comes out of your mouth. â He asked, so you nodded quietly, watching as he was leaning closer. âJust donât bite me, or do it. I would be the best werewolf, and the most handsome one. â He whispered between the kisses.
âYour heart is so freaking loud. Maybe we should stop, we donât want you to die or have a heart attack. â You replied, showing that you care.
âWe donât? I didnât know that. Also, I thought that you canât hear it anymore. Since I am your anchor, and all you do right now is think of me...â he said confidently, admitting the things you were scared to say.
âGlad you finally understood. But it doesnât work like that...â You were eager to explain everything once more, yet George had the courage to interrupt you again.
âShh, we will have the time for talking. Iâm now stuck with you forever, to be your Prince Charming and hero when you wonât be able to control yourself. But you are able now, and the night is longâŠâ
âDonât be so sure.â You interjected, moving closer and deciding to sit on him.
As George said, the night was long. The two of you forgot about the potion you were making, focusing on something else.
The worst thing was how easy the two of you fell asleep.
Snape seeing you that morning, sleeping, covered with your robes, was quite surprised. And furious. He yelled at you, making you wake up, not knowing where you are and what you were doing last night.
It was obvious that heâs going to serve detention for you.
But what could possibly go wrong, now that you have your anchor beside you?

Summer Camp
Pairing: Sam Winchester x Reader
Rating: 18+; Minors DNi
Warnings: PWP, oral sex (f receiving) unprotected sex, brutally murdered teens by an immortal serial killer at a summer camp (though that is just mentioned).
Summary: You and the boys investigate the slaughtering of counselors at a cursed summer camp.
a/n: This was written on a Friday the 13th and an excuse to write Sam smut.
-
It was a case straight out of a campy horror movie, five counselors were slaughtered as they got the camp ready for the summer. Normally it wouldnât have been your kind of scene, but the cops wouldnât talk about it and the only survivor was missing two limbs and held up in a psychiatric facility. The news said she claimed that whoever killed her friends was still out there and impossible to kill, even after they set him on fire and managed to stab him in the chest.
âThink itâs a Tulpa,â Sam asked as he lugged your bags towards a cabin.
âCould be,â you hummed. You honestly hating camping, the dirt, the bugs, the heat, but living the life as a hunter brought you out into the deep woods from time to time and you learned to deal with it. But at least here at camp there was indoor plumbing and beds. âOr it could be a serial killer bent on revenge against horny camp counselors.â
Sam grinned as you pulled the rickety door open and allowed him in first. The cabin was small, but had a tiny sitting room that lead to a bedroom holding an aging queen bed and bathroom that you barely fit in, so you werenât sure how Sam was going to use it, but at least you had your privacy. Dean was rooming with, much to his delight, the rest of the actual counselors in hopes of a hookup before facing the big bad.
âMy parents shipped me off to camp every summer,â you recalled idly, unpacking your clothes into the small wooden dresser. âI hated every minute of it.â
âWhy? I wouldâve loved to have gone to a regular camp,â Sam laughed from where he stretched out on the bed, the springs creaked with his breathing. âProbably wouldâve been better than chasing werewolves all summer.â
âI built so many birdhouses out of popsicle sticks itâs not even funny.â You tucked away the last of Samâs shirts and moved to crawl in the bed with him, the thin mattress gave easily to your weight and groaned in protest. He reached out for you as you moved closer, his hands found your hips as you straddled his. âAnd they forced me to go fishing,â you grimaced. âHad to hook poor little worms, it was so sad.â
âI promise you donât have to do anything like that while youâre here. We signed you up as the swim instructor,â he informed with a glint in his eye.
âWhat? You said I was doing archery,â you gasped, slapping at his chest.
âAnd miss the chance of seeing you in a bathing suit all day? No way,â Sam grinned and blocked the rest of your playful hits.
You rolled your eyes and fought against him as he pulled you down for a kiss. âYouâre a pervert, you know that?â You lost the battle and allowed him to press his mouth against yours. âAnd hopefully we arenât all chopped up into tiny pieces and eaten before the camp opens,â you muttered against his puckered lips.
âYou really know how to kill the mood, Y/N,â he groaned and let his head fall back onto the pillow.
You laughed and winked, climbing off of him. âCâmon, letâs go find your brother.â You pulled him out of the bed and eventually the cabin, heading out to join the others already gathered around the evening campfire. Dean was chatting with a pretty blonde around your age, wide eyed and flushed as the other Winchester flirted shamelessly. âI see that you got straight to work,â you greeted them when you got close enough.
âThis the Brittany,â Dean turned his attention to the both of you. âHer parents own the camp.â
She gave a little wave to the both of you. âTheyâve been talking about buying it for a while now. They met here when they were younger, they were counselors here. Just celebrated their 25th anniversary, so they caved and guilted me into running it.â
âHow sweet,â you cooed.
She nodded and smiled, but it didnât seem to reach her eyes. âThanks for accepting the job, it was hell trying to get people to want to work here.â
You tilted your head, feigning ignorance, âWhat do you mean?â
Her eyes widened and she quickly shook her head, âWeâve got a nasty mosquito problem. Everyoneâs worried about bird flu or whatever.â She laughed loud and nervously and you played along. âAnyway, letâs get drunk!â With a clap of her hands, she was up and jogged over to the cooler the others had open and full of cheap beer.
âWell, thatâs not suspicious at all,â Sam rolled his eyes. âThink you can get it out of her, Dean?â The eldest Winchester winked and joined in the merriment of bad music and alcohol, his arm already wrapped around Brittany. âWanna look around?â You grinned up at your boyfriend and grabbed his hand, leading him back towards your cabin. âI thought you wanted to work?â
âDeanâs working,â you replied with a half shrug. âBesides, donât you know the best way to get a crazy serial killer to come out of hiding is for two young, beautiful people to fuck like rabbits while their friends party outside?â
Sam laughed and scooped you up to carry you the rest of the way to the cabin, âIs that right?â
âMhm,â you nodded, wrapping your arms around his neck, âitâs in the rule book.â
âThereâs a rule book, huh?â You pulled the door open once again and Sam bee-lined straight to the bed. He unceremoniously dropped you on the cheap, thin mattress and eagerly climbed on top and between your legs. âDoes it say how weâre supposed to do it? Hard and fast? Nice and slow?â
You tilted your head in thought when he sat on his hunches, pulling off his thin white shirt that was already soaked through with sweat. âHard and fast,â you decided. âAnd very loud.â
âLoud? I think we can manage that,â Sam chuckled and worked on his pants as you wiggled out of your own tank top and shorts, tossing them aside. Stripped down to your underwear, he was back on you, mouth attacking yours with his normal primal greed, teeth and tongue and growls. Your fingers twisted into his hair, your sweat slicked bodies clung together as he rolled his hips against yours.
The bed groaned beneath you as the two of you moved in tandem, drowning out your whimpers and Samâs moans. Any other time, any other place, you would have complained and moved to the floor as youâve done in past hotels, but somehow, being in a camp like this hearing the springs protest beneath you made it all the more dirty and got you a bit more hot and bothered.
âCâmon, Sam,â you whined, pulling away from his hungry lips, âfuck me.â
âIâm workinâ on it,â he grumbled, but sat back once more to pull off his boxers. Your panties were next, already soaked from your slick and sweat, peeled off with the hook of his thumbs. A devious smile split his face and he dropped so that his shoulders could spread your thighs.
âNo, no,â you shook your head and tried to coax him up to you, âno foreplay, straight to the dicking!â
Sam shook his head right back at you and licked at his lips, his thumbs that removed your underwear now parted your folds and he stared hungrily at your core. âDidnât get dessert when we stopped for food,â he reminded you.
âIâm not ice cream!â
âCouldâve fooled me,â Sam sniggered and licked a long, flat strip from your fluttering hole to your clit and groaned at the bittersweet tang. A shiver shot through you and your legs clenched around him, a whining moan begged him for more. âThought you said itâs gotta be loud? I could barely hear you.â
You slapped the top of his head and scowled down at his beautiful, smirking face. âThatâs âcause you gotta fuck me.â
âI am,â Sam snorted. His eyes locked with yours as he licked another slow trail from hole to hole to your swelling bud. You struggled around him and groaned, your eyes threatened to flutter closed, but you fought against it to glare at him.
âItâs been five days since youâve been inside me, Samuel,â you snapped. âStop fucking around and dick me down, dammit.â
âYouâre really bossy when youâre desperate,â he teased, but climbed up your body once more to give you a taste of yourself as he lined up. âI kinda like it.â You grinned up at him, your hands finding their way to his shoulders and when he pushed in one fluid motion to the hilt, your smile turning into a sinful O. âYou said hard and fast.â
You nodded eagerly and he pulled back, leaving just the tip before slamming back home with the bed squeaking underneath you. âSam,â you hissed, âjust like that.â Your legs and arms wrapped around him as he started the quick, brutal pace of his hips. The thin metal frame of the bed rocked and swayed with his thrusts, your desperate moans only joining in the chorus of the whining objection of the mattress beneath you.
Samâs lips found your skin once more, kissing and marking the slick flesh. âLouder,â he murmured against your jaw, pinching the skin off its bone with his teeth. âWant that killer to show up, donât you,â he chuckled breathlessly.
You did as you were told, lewd sounds ripped from your throat as Sam changed his angle, searching for the right spot to get you really singing. You did your best to encourage him, sobbing out dirty words, telling him to fuck you harder, faster, and he did. His hips slammed repeatedly against your ass, the squeaks of the bed barely registering over the sound of skin against skin or your porn worthy moans.
And when he found your spot, you clawed at his back, latching onto him which signaled him to let loose. He fucked into you with wild abandon, his face buried into the side of yours, both of you losing your voices as Sam worked you closer to the edge. Neither of you registered the sound of your cabin door open or the sounds of the footsteps creeping closer.
You hit yours first, the blinding white of you orgasm burst through you and came out with a cry of Samâs name. You clung to him desperately as you rode it out, Sam still pumping into you with a feral need until he spilled his own deep inside of you.
âWas it as good for you as it was for me,â Dean said from the doorway, a crooked grin on his lips.
âAre you fucking serious,â you yelled, grabbing a pillow and hurling to across the room only to miss.
Dean watched the pillow fall to the floor and he snorted, âNice throw. You might want to get your clothes on. Weâre getting out of here.â
âWhat? Why,â Sam asked, reluctantly pulling out of you. Dean gagged playfully and turned away so you two could get decent.
âBecause the whole thing is a hoax. The âsurvivorâ,â he used air quotes, âwe talked to? Brittanyâs crazy sister. And Brittany? Just as crazy. The family made the whole thing up to get people to come to the camp. Thereâs no killer, there was no murders, just a scam to get publicity.â
You sighed heavily and climbed out of bed, gathering you clothes on the way to the shower. âWeâll pack up and meet you in twenty, I guess.â
âIf you two wanna keep playing naughty counselors, Iâm all for staying the night,â Dean chuckled. âBrittany might be crazy, but sheâs got some nice ti-â
You made a loud yelp to get him to stop. âGet out, Dean. Weâll meet you at the car.â You disappeared into the bathroom with Sam on your heels. As you predicted, he was barely able to get around the small room and when you two climbed into the shower, he couldnât turn on the water without elbowing you in the face.
âYou look disappointed,â Sam noted, his fingers running through your dampening hair.
âI wanted to kill something,â you pouted.
Rolling his eyes, he reached for the shampoo and started to wash your hair. âIâm sure weâll find something for you to murder soon. Close your eyes.â
You whined pathetically but did as you were told. âNext time we agree to go to summer camp, there better be an immortal serial killer on the loose or Iâm gonna be pissed.â

Afterstory
Read here
For a moment, can we just talk about how Tony pretty much claimed a home not his as his new boyfriendâs familyâs home? This kid is living the thug life lol.
"Thank you for letting us stay here, till the next birthday, Frederick. Oh, and do tell if you're planning on snacking on the humans. I call dibs on the adorable munchkin."
Rudolph placed a hand on his forehead, with Tony hiding behind his shoulder. "Auntie, for the last time; they're friends. Besides, we have that 'no biting humans' rule, right?"
"Wasn't that for before? When we were lying low, right?"
Frederick chuckles, "Regardless, the rule still stands." he says.
"We just made our peace with the mortals," Freda interjects, "no need to start it up again." she says.
After the interesting events that transpired for the last three days, Tony managed to convince his parents to prolong their stay, and the Sackville-Bagg family got used to their new home and the old couple more or less come to terms that the vampires are not so bad. It took a while and a whole lot convincing (Anna not to do it using her spell, included.) But after a few nights, and with their necks still free from being bitten, they came to a compromise, thanks to Tony; that every Halloween, the family would act out and role play to attract some tourists annually, insinuating that they would be moving statues or vampire actors, similar to the attraction in Disneyland, so that The Bed and the Breakfast could attract more tourists. Tony was already begging his parents to let him take a week off from school to come visit during Halloween for their debut. Rudolph was just glad that the old humans let his family stay without reporting them to any vampire hunter.
Considering they got Rookery thrown into a mental asylum with his claims of vampires are real, it wasn't really a problem. Nevertheless, Frederick and Freda found that they liked their new home.
The Thompsons were more or less accepting the fact that vampires exists at all.
Tony Thompson was more or less psyched about the entire thing. Definitely more.
(Except when Rudolph's relatives tried biting him the first few times. But that was an understandable exception.)
ââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Rudolph and Tony were now hanging out in the human's room. Apparently, Rudolph hasn't chosen a room for himself yet. While his friend was there, he decided to stay with him. The only change was that they got an actual coffin for Rudolph now. They were exchanging stories... well, the vampire was. Tony's sharing was mostly information, some explained in anecdotes. Half the time, he had to stop in the middle of it to explain some expressions.
"Okay, how about this." Tony starts, nibbling on some chips. He got Rudolph to fly him into the nearest town to buy snacks that this castle was severely lacking. "he looks like one, and she looks like one, but just to confirm, is your father an alpha, and mother, an omega?"
Rudolph frowns, scratching his head. He was only familiar with that term when it came to werewolves, and even he hasn't met an actual one yet. "My parents are vampires; those terms are used on those canine creatures. A counterpart to our patriarch and matriarch term referring to male and female heads of family."
"Ah, no, no. Not that kind of alpha, omega." Tony said, waving his head dismissively. "Hmm, maybe it doesn't really apply to vampires, anyway. I can explain it better if we just have some internet, and I can show you this link that popped out on my Facebook News feed just before coming here..."
Every time Tony says something, Rudolph has a new word to learn. "Facebook?"
"Oh, and this is what we call Facebook." Tony explains, showing the vampire his phone and pointing at an icon. "I can't use it right now because I don't have any data, and this castle doesn't have any internet. Well, yet. I heard mom and dad convincing those old folks to get it installed since tourists would be expecting that in order to post on their timeline. Or Instagram it, which is getting popular these days."
Rudolph nods, "Hmm, interesting technology. But," he frowns, "what is internet? And... 'Instagram'?"
"Heh, we should have one day where I dedicate explaining internet and apps alone." Tony chuckles, "Basically, it's some special features on a this device we call mobile phones."
Rudolph examines the device, "So these days, humans don't use phones for calling?"
"We do, but we also use it for other stuff. Like... Well, just think of it as... a very advance phone. You've seen phones, right?"
Rudolph hums, "A bit... But yours is way different than what I saw before father moved us to the vault, and pretty much just stayed there since. So I never really got to use it since I wasn't human anymore by then." he shrugs.
"Huh, human..." Tony repeats, thoughtful. "you say that... So that means you weren't a vampire from the start. And your parents...?"
Rudolph turns to Tony, "Still my parents. Only ones I've ever known, anyway." He says, "Whoever my parents were, they couldn't keep us. Too poor, or so Gregory remembers. I definitely don't remember, not after being turned anyway, only wondered if I've ever met them at all. Gregory was the only one who really cared for me and Anna, till our parents, the ones now, took us in."
"Oh, I didn't think that... I'm sorry, Rudolph."
However, the vampire just raised a brow at this. "Why do you apologize?"
"Well, it's just that... You're technically all dead, after all." Tony points out, "and it's a shame; somehow... you never got to meet your parents."
Rudolph just shrugs, "Don't know if it even counts as being dead, we still sort of do what the 'alive' does. As for my birth parents, well, no point on dwelling on what I never knew. Older brother was sent to the workhouse at one point. We never saw him again until after he was turned, and had father change us as well so we could be a family with Frederick and Freda Sackville-Bagg. Those were my parents then, and they're still my parents."
"Well, if you say so," Tony manages to smile, "it's kinda cool, that you all look alike even if you aren't related. Well, to your parents, that is."
Rudolph shrugs, "Father says that those turned tend to develop some semblance to the one who turned them." he says.
"So how about your parents then, who turned them?"
"In their case, they were born as vampires." Rudolph told him.
Tony frowns, "Born... As in babies?" he repeats, "I thought vampires don't age. Aren't you guys stuck the way you were when you're turned?"
"How do you explain me being thirteen then?" Rudolph made a look, "of course we age, just differently. Have you seen my aunts and uncles?"
Tony scratched the back of his head, "Yeah, that did raise some questions for me." he admitted. "But how does aging work for you guys? I mean, I really thought vampires were immortal. Timeless."
"We are immortal, in the sense that time means nothing to us." Rudolph waves a dismissive hand, "as for why my aunts and uncles look like who you humans would call the 'elderly' is because of the blood they've consumed. I don't drink blood except for animals', both mother and father haven't had a drop since... well, since they turned us."
Tony raised a brow, "Blood ages you?"
"Not exactly. We choose the form we wish to stay as, which is why I've been thirteen all my immortal life so far. It's a bit like that expression you said the other day, uh, 'Time flies when you're having fun?' Did I say it right?"
Tony nods, "So... you guys don't age when you don't have... fun?"
"No, not that either. But it's like the breeze, sometimes you don't notice it among other more visible things in your surroundings. Especially in our case, nothing special ever happens, as if we're stuck doing the same thing all over again when the next moon rises." Rudolph tells him, "Basically, we can choose not to rush our aging. According to Gregory, mother was in the form of a fifteen year old till she met father." Rudolph says, "But human blood, while a pleasurable nourishment to us, also acts like a drug. Likewise, too much of it weakens the willpower needed to maintain the form of our choice." Tony still looks thoroughly confused. "All right. Think of it this way. You mortals have lifelines, think of the numbers of age a human would miss out on once they're drank, or turned." he explains further, "the 'growing old' part of mortal living transfers to the vampire who drank it's blood. My aunts and uncles can no longer will themselves to maintain a youthful appearance because some of them drank too much human blood. Then again, not so bad a thing; that's why our clan is so big. However, for the same reason, father and mother don't like having human blood as much anymore, Well, aside from the initial plan of maintaining a low profile. They prefer and are contented with their form right now."
Tony nods, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "I get it now... I guess." he says.
"Hmm, that reminds me..." Rudolph starts, frowning suddenly. "you're gonna die someday, too, right?"
Tony gapes, staring at his friend. "Wow, this took a bleak turn fast." he says. "But yeah, technically. Still young though, so my lifespan still has some ways to go." he elbows Rudolph. "you're gonna see me hanging around for at least a hundred years, if I'm lucky to live that long."
"Huh, yeah..."
Rudolph suddenly felt apprehensive, something he hasn't felt in a long time. That thing he dealt with when Rookery invaded his old home didn't compare. Even while he was afraid for his family, some small part inside him still knew he wasn't going to lose his family and maybe Tony had something to do with that small part. But the thing with Tony being human, like others, growing old and eventually dying, being buried while vampires wait for their bones to disintegrate to occupy their coffins... It left a cold ache in him.
He didn't want Tony to be reduced to that.
After being turned, Rudolph never knew anyone close to his age. Or sort of his age, in Tony's case. He had Anna, sure, but she was his sister. She was family, like Gregory was, and like the whole Sackville-Bagg clan was. But he never had a friend, a real friend like Tony. Someone who would go through lengths to help him without family ties and responsibility compelling him to. Even when they just met, and even when Tony didn't know exactly what he was getting into by fighting against vampire hunters, he still did. Because Tony had a good heart. Which was one of the things that Rudolph loved about him.
Loved? Rudolph blinks, shaking his head. He blushes, No, like... It's like. Friends like each other after all...
Which was why he was thoroughly annoyed with Anna, who tried stealing his friend with her spell, didn't even let it come naturally. Rudolph may not remember much of his old human life, but he does remember that it wasn't right. Besides, Tony was his not hers... his friend and not hers. And Rudolph knew there was only one way he could keep his friend for a very, very long time.
But Rudolph had a feeling that Tony wouldn't agree to that idea, not just yet. Plus, there were his parents to think about. And while Tony seemed to find vampires cool, it didn't seem like he wanted to be one himself. For one thing, while the blond enjoyed their night excursions, Tony would probably miss going out in daylight freely. He did want to drag him and Anna to swim down the lake earlier in the morning till he remembered that vampires burn in the sun.
So maybe not now, Rudolph thought. But... maybe someday.
Because for some reasons, after meeting Tony, even while he couldn't explain why, Rudolph couldn't imagine spending more than one hundreds without him.
"Hey look, I think the sun's going down." Tony approached the curtains, and opened them. True enough, the sun has finally set. He grins, turning towards Rudolph. "Hey, I just remember the old lady mentioning something about a natural hot spring somewhere up the mountains. Better than the chilly lake those jerks dumped me in last week; how about that swim, huh?"
Rudolph grins, getting on his feet. He walk towards the window and they both pushed it open. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's fly."
"Right on! Oh," Tony pauses, thinking. "how about your sister? She might want to joinâwoah!"
The blond didn't get to finish his sentence as Rudolph drags him out into the night.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
The weeks of summer seemed like days by how fast they went by, and the next thing Tony knew, it was time to return to America. While he was disappointed that summer was coming to an end, like most boys his age would be, he was especially upset now. After everything he's been through... Everything he and Rudolph's been through, it was hard for Tony to imagine going back to his normal reality.
More to the point, it was hard that he needed to say good bye to Rudolph.
He's never had a friend, not quite like Rudolph, and not just because said guy was a freaking vampire. While he did have some friends back home, no one really understood his obsession with vampires. He didn't understand it himself, to be honest. Most kids his age didn't strongly believe in the supernatural anymore, unless they were conspiracy theorists or the like. But even Tony knew that wasn't it; he was drawn to the concept of vampires. Even his mom said his first word was vampire. (Vam-vam, technically.) And while he would cry easily when anybody tried scaring him when he was a baby, seeing vampire movies just made him laugh, even the not-safe-for-kids type of movies.
He even wished his future soulmate would be a vampire at one point, no matter how his parents kept telling him that they didn't exist.
Speaking of, it was almost his time for that. Although it didn't necessarily happen every single time, but a person would usually end up meeting a soul mate prospect by the age of fourteen, since fourteen was the age people usually started presenting their secondary gender. More often than not, the first prospect doesn't always work out because both individuals weren't mature enough to understand the concept of soul mates, so they break it off by mutual agreement. And just like that, the link is broken, giving the individuals freedom from the bond, and to find the next prospect without ties to the past. But the thing about soul mates is that the first prospect is the most ideal, if it was managed properly the first time.
Nowadays, most people don't end up with their ideal soul mates. Tony knew his parents weren't each others' ideals, after all. But maybe it came with his obsession with the supernatural, but Tony was hoping to get it right the first time. At first, he thought it had been Anna. But when he looks at her, when she wasn't looking back at her or talking to him to use her spell, he didn't really feel connected to her at all, not the way his mom would describe the soul link sensation.
Then again, he wasn't fourteen and has yet to present as a beta, like his parents, or the unlikelihood of being an alpha or omega.
"Tony, dear, hurry." Dottie Thompson calls out to her son, "we need to catch our flight."
Tony waves at her from where he still stood, near the castle's entrance. "Give me another minute, mom!" he turns back to the Sackville-Bagg family, but mostly Rudolph. "So, remember how to log into Skype. Cause that's the only way we're talking till next summer."
"Or Halloween." Rudolph says insistently.
Tony chuckles, "Fingers-crossed." he literally did just that. He saw the confusion on, not only Rudolph's, but the family's faces. "Oh, uh, it means... Something along the lines of 'Hopefully, it happens'."
"Oh, well, in that case," Anna smiles, showing off her perfectly white teeth, "Fingers crossed."
Tony smiles back at her, enchanted for a moment again. Gregory rolls his eyes before purposefully getting between his sister and the mortal, to which Anna made an opposing cry. Undeterred, Rudolph steps forward and holds Tony in an embrace. The first time the vampire did it, the human was too startled by the gesture to react, and maybe a little awkward. But this time, Tony returned the hug, finding that he was already missing the vampire, and he hasn't even left yet.
Rudolph pulled back first, "I'll see you in the skies." he says.
"It's Skype, but pretty close." Tony chuckled before stepping back, practically walking backwards to the car until finally reaching it. He inhales, and turns towards his parents. "Can I pleaseâ"
Bob Thompson sighed, expecting. "Your mom and I discussed it, yes, we'll let you off for Halloween IF" he pauses, "you get mostly A's or A+'s on your card before then."
"But that'sâ" Tony starts before sighing, "Fine." He gets in, and Bob drives off as the first ray of dawn starts showing.
The youngest looks back to the castle, already shrinking as they got farther and farther into the road. He wished to catch one more glance of his friend, but he knew the family already returned into the castle for refuge from the sun.
Soon... Fingers-crossed.

Hellsing Liveblog Ch. 45-50
This is the âSoldier of Fortuneâ arc. I thought there was a song by this title and there is!   Give it a listen.
youtube
This opens with a flashback to Pip Bernadotteâs childhood, where he finds out his whole family is a bunch of mercenaries.   His grandfather confirms it, and I should point out that Grandpa Bernadotte is the most mercenary-looking dude Iâve ever seen.  Heâs wearing a frigginâ beret while he tells Pip about how his dad died in some war to raise money while Ma Bernadotte was pregnant with Pip.  Was Pipâs mother a merc too?Â
I guess my point is that this whole scene feels really stupid to me.  Kid Pip grew up among mercenaries, but heâs literally the last person in town to find out about it. How do the kids at school know?  Are the Bernadottes that well-known?  I always assumed mercenaries tried to keep a low profile.  Then again, they are entrepreneurs, so maybe the kids in school found ads about the Bernadottes in the phone book. Â
Even so, was Pipâs family trying to keep this a secret from him? Because Grandpa sure wasnât.  Not with that beret heâs got on.  Itâs like heâs been waiting Pipâs whole life to tell him, so why didnât he mention it before? Youâd think heâd want to raise the boy to follow in his footsteps, the same as Pipâs dad. Did Pipâs mom not want him to grow up to be a mercenary? It just seems like she should have known that wouldnât work out. Â
Anyway, Grandpa Bernadotte waxes philosophical about killing people for money, which doesnât seem like much of a justification.  Pip was very upset about the whole thing, and I donât think Grandpa said anything to make him less upset, and then we flash forward to the present day, where Pipâs a mercenary.
I mean, what was the point of that flashback? Pip was horrified to find out his family kills for profit, and then at some point he got over it and joined the family business.  Why didnât the flashback show us that moment instead? It seems more relevant. Â
At any rate, I feel like the flashback is overlooking the true point of Pipâs character arc. He starts out a soldier of fortune like his father and grandfather, but by joining up with Hellsing heâs now fighting for a much nobler cause, ridding the world of unspeakably evil monsters. He still seems to look at it like just another job, but itâs still important. His defense of the Hellsing mansion is a lot more heroic because heâs fighting against daunting odds with very little hope of surviving to see another sunrise, let alone his next paycheck. Â
Back to the main story, when Millenniumâs forces invaded London, they sent a company to the Hellsing HQ on the outskirts of the city.  Zorin Blitz was tasked with leading this group, but she was ordered to hold off on attacking until the Major gave the word.  The Major then fired rockets at the mansion, only for Seras Victoria to shoot the rockets down... and Zorinâs zeppelin.  Now, Zorin is trying to lead a ground attack on the mansion, except Pip has turned the entire yard into a minefield.  Â
Seras disapproves, but Pip doesnât care.  In this sort of conflict, he and his men, the Wild Geese, are at a complete disadvantage.  Vampires, even the weaker, artificial vampires of Millennium, are faster, stronger, and harder to kill. He hints at some sort of vampiric ability to read an opponentâs movements, too, which might have something to do with that whole âthird eyeâ trick Seras and Alucard use.  Against all of that, landmines are a sensible precaution, since theyâre powerful enough to kill a vampire in one shot and donât rely on a human operator with killing intent. Seras can gripe, but if Hellsing had used mines back in volume 2, the Valentine Brothers never would have made it inside. Pip clearly read up on that debacle, since it must have taken weeks for his men to bury all these mines.
The landmines do kill a lot of Zorinâs troops, and the Wild Geese lay down heavy fire from the mansion to keep up the pressure, but Zorin wonât give up so easily. Â She uses he powers to create some sort of zany illusion, where everyone sees a giant Zorin Blitz attacking the mansion.
So what the hell is Zorin Blitz, exactly?  I thought she was a vampire, but reading this manga has revealed that Rip Van WInkle is a werewolf, which led me to suspect Zorin is a werewolf too.  But the manga is silent on Zorin being one or the other. I check the Hellsing Wiki, but it contends that both women are vampires, and the term âWerewolfâ just refers to the group of officers in Millennium.  This group includes literal werewolves like the Captain and Schrodinger, but not Blitz and Rip.  Â
Maybe it doesnât matter that much, but I find it a little silly to call all four of those characters âWerewolvesâ and then only two of them are really werewolves.  Clearly, all four of them are a cut above the Majorâs other troops, and none of them show any interest in drinking blood, or any other vampire-exclusive traits.  On the other hand, this whole battle takes place under a full moon, and none of them seem to be affected by it.   Unless the Major chose this particular night to launch his offensive because he wanted them all to be at full power.  Maybe Zorin couldnât do this illusion thing otherwise.
Anyway, the Wild Geese see this giant woman slashing at them with a scythe, and they all panic.  Seras sees it too, but she somehow intuits that it canât be real.  Then she sees Alucard, who reminds her of her third eye.  Iâm not sure if this is a flashback or Alucard is using telepathy to coach her from the deck of the H.M.S. Eagle. Â
Either way, Seras uses her third eye and not only sees through the illusion but lines up a shot on the illusion-caster. But it only grazes Zorin.  It disrupts the illusion, but it doesnât end the threat.
And even though the illusion is shattered, it still distracted the Wild Geese long enough for Millennium troops to enter the mansion.  Seras manages to shoot them down, but thereâs more where that came from.
Because the Nazi bastards figured out a way past the mines.  They just threw a bunch of knives on the ground and played hopscotch to get across.  I guess this means they can only get in one at a time, but itâs still bad news for the good guys.
So Pip adjusts his tactics accordingly. He and his men will regroup and hold up in a defensible location, while Seras roams the building to take the fight to the enemy.  I guess the idea is to divide Millenniumâs focus.  They can attack the Geese or watch out for Seras, but not both.  For some reason, Seras calls Pip âsirâ, like heâs in charge, and maybe that is appropriate in this situation, but I thought Seras was in charge of their training. Â
Then one of the Geese pats her on the butt and Pip steals a kiss.  Iâm not sure what the hell this is about.  I guess they were trying to lighten the mood before they go to face certain death, but if my life depended on some vampire girl killing all the bad guys before they can rip me to shreds, I probably wouldnât sexually harass her, or do anything else to tick her off.  But thatâs just me.
Pip seems resigned about their chances. Heâs confident in Serasâ ability, but thereâs only one of her and like... 30? Letâs say 30, thirty Nazi Vampires heading their way. If even one of them gets past Seras, the Geese will all die horribly.  But they took this job and the risks that come with it, and besides, thereâs nowhere for them to run anyway.   He seems to accept the situation with a mercenary sense of honor.  Like, a mercenary should expect to die in some unwinnable battle, and they shouldnât complain about it, since itâs the nature of the business.Â
Anyway, it doesnât go well.  The nature of the comic doesnât really make it clear how the Wild Geese are operating, but I get the impression that theyâre doing sort of a fighting withdrawal concentrating their forces as they give ground.   But they suffer a lot of casualties in the process.
This leads to the Geese holing up in the big conference room where Integra met with the Royal Order of Protestant Knights before the Valentine Bros. attack.  One guy panics and wants to bug out, but Pip reminds him of what I said a minute ago.  Theyâve got nowhere else to go, and they all got into this for the action, so they should stick to their principles, even in the face of death.
Thereâs this one guy from âB-blockâ, who I guess was covering a certain hallway, but B-Block got cut off before they could join the others in the Round Table room.   Zorin Blitz decides to have some fun with him, so she uses her weird powers to make him see himself back home, with his dead daughter. Â
This seems especially cruel, because itâs not like Zorin needed this diversion to kill one dude.  Sheâs just really sadistic.
Meanwhile, some other Millennium guys are eating the Wild Geese they already killed, and one of them shows off his ability to tell blood types just by taste.  Itâs this really sick moment, but at the same time it humanizes the characters, which is a weird thing to say when discussing Nazi vampires, but you know what I mean.
Then Seras blows the dudeâs head off, which is extremely satisfying.
So Seras is holding up her end, and growing more resolute with each kill.  Sheâs really improved a lot since the last time she was in action.   Yeah, these Millennium vampires probably arenât that much tougher than the vampires she killed back in the summer, but there are a lot more of them, and theyâre trained soldiers on top of that, and she doesnât have Alucard backing her up like she did before.
By now, all thatâs left of the Wild Geese are in this barricaded room, and theyâve run low on silver bullets, which means even the few shots that donât miss will have almost no effect.  Pip is determined to hold out, confident that Seras will save them, but...
She runs out of bullets before she runs out of enemies to kill.  When she arrives to save the day, sheâs still has to go through Zorin Blitz.
But Zorin doesnât see this as a problem, and she uses her freaky mind powers on Seras, forcing her to relive memories of her days at the orphanage.   Yeah, Seras was an orphan, remember?  Alucard asked Walter about her parents a while back, and Walter said they were both dead. How did they die?
Well, Zorin Blitz is about to find out...

Ooh - maybe like Peter doesnât know Tony is a werewolf at first, but the Avengers do and keep Peter away on the nights of the full moon. Peter, maybe heâs recovering in the med bay, happens to be at the compound on the full moon and hears Tony howling. The others panic because when they check on Tony the chains are broken and they find Peter missing from the med bay. When they find Peter, heâs giving Tony scritches and Tony is acting like a big old puppy.
Now thatâs what Iâm talking about đđ
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Peter never slept very well in the med bay. He much preferred sleeping at home for obvious reasons, or even up in some guest room somewhere in the compound. But Mr. Stark had insisted he stay here, and while Peter could be very stubborn at times, this time heâd listened.
His injuries werenât that bad, theyâd heal in a matter of days, but Mr. Stark had said that it would be for his own peace of mind. How could Peter deny him that? So there he was, lying in a hospital bed that was significantly more comfortable than the ones in any other regular civilian hospital were, and yet he couldnât sleep.
It probably had everything to do with the hospital bed and nothing to do with the fact that there was a full moon, which Peter could see from where he was lying, although sometimes he wondered if it did affect him a little. After all, the spiderbite had changed a lot about him. He wondered how spiders reacted to the full moon. Many animals did, after all.
At least the moon kept him company. Mr. Stark had stuck with him for a while, which had been really nice, but he was busy, too. Peter had asked him to stay but heâd said there was a lot of work to be done, and Peter knew that there was, there always was, and so heâd let him go even though the man seemed like all he wanted to do was stick around. What else could he have done?
So now all Peter could really entertain himself with was staring at the moon just beyond his window. It was fascinating how large it was, and how bright, how it bathed his entire room in this cool, bluish light.
He could see why werewolves in books and stories and movies were always obsessed with the moon.
Ugh, he should have asked for a book.
They hadnât even left him his phone.
Peter yawned leisurely and stretched for as far as his body would allow it, letting his mind wander. It was quiet in the med bay and it had been a while since someone had checked on him so they would probably do so pretty soon. Peter hoped heâd be asleep by then, but he doubted he would be.
There was something eerie about the silence. Youâd expect a hospital wing to brim with some kind of life, even at this hour. Maybe Peter had misinterpreted.
And maybe Peter was overthinking the whole full moon thing. Yeah, he was just overthinking it. Overthinking everything. He just needed to relax.
Peter took a deep breath in, and sighed it out slowly through his nose, eyes closing. He just had to do some breathing exercises. That was all. In, and out. In, and out. Heâd fall asleep eventually. It was just like counting sheep, except counting breaths.
On the twenty-fifth breath, when Peter was finally starting to relax and doze off lightly, he jolted awake before his body could succumb.
There was a sound. Low and yet high, spine-chilling as it reached his ears, waking him up in an instant once more. He knew that he had a vivid imagination, but that wasnât something that he could have imagined â even so close to actually falling asleep. It wasnât a dream. It was real life.
And he was pretty sure that he just heard a wolf howl somewhere deep in the bowels of the Avengers compound.
.
âWhat?â
Steve was out of breath, standing in front of the intricate contraption they had created to keep Tony contained, but there was no Tony in sight.
They had all come running from their respective quarters when they had heard the howl, something that always meant there was something seriously wrong. And right now what was seriously wrong was that somehow, Tony had broken free of his restraints, and was undoubtedly wandering the halls of the compound.
Which shouldnât have been a total disaster.
Except for the fact that Peter was in the med bay. And Natasha had just gotten word from the night nurse that the boy was missing from his bed.
âYouâre kidding me,â Steve panted, burying his face in his hands for a moment. He took a deep breath and straightened up again, âWe have to find them. Both of them. Letâs split up so we can cover more ground. Bruce, Rhodey, Wanda, you comb out the med bay. Clint, Nat and I will sweep the compound. Stay in touch, and stay together. You know what heâs like during full moon.â
And just like that, it was like they had been assigned a mission. They went to their respective starting points and started sweeping the building, checking every room, listening in to every sound. Steveâs team searched Tonyâs penthouse first, because it would have made sense for him to be there. Then they started making their way down one floor at a time, leaving the lights off so as not to potentially spook the wolf.
They moved silently through room after room, only speaking to inform each other that yet another space was empty. No sign of Tony yet.
But when they stepped into the communal kitchen, they could hear the fleshy sound of chewing before they saw it.
From their vantage point, the three could see Tonyâs hind legs on the floor, the rest of him hidden behind the kitchen island, his tail up and cautious. Next to it were a pair of bare legs. Peterâs legs, lying still as the chewing continued loudly, sloppily, making Steve raise the taser they had all equipped themselves with.
Steve realized this was the worst case scenario.
They always made sure to chain Tony up properly, make sure he was secure, and then they double checked that everyone else was safe as well. They knew that when Tony shifted he was overcome with an insatiable hunger that so far had seemed unquenchable.
And now Peter was lying there, on the ground, the tangy smell of blood getting worse the closer they got to the scene of the crime.
Clint and Natasha seemed to have caught on, too. From the corner of his eye Steve could see that Nat had her mouth covered with her hand, eyes wide as they slowly moved around the kitchen island to get close enough to tase Tony. Steve knew that she liked the kid more than she usually admitted.
Hell, so did Steve.
They rounded the object between them and the scene and Peter was lying on his side, something bloody and chewy in Tonyâs maw, and Steve knew he had no choice but to tase him, hurt him, hopefully knock him out with the high voltage so that they could get him back and chain him up again and take care of Peter who might still be breathing if they were luckyâ
When Peter lifted his head and propped it up against his hand.
âHey guys! Look what I found wandering the halls! Did you guys know someone here kept a puppy?â
The group seemed to heave a collective sigh when Peter, who was clearly alive, beamed up at them.
âFRIDAY, lights on please,â Steve murmured, and the second they were bathed in light, Tonyâs head lifted from where heâd been chewing a bloody steak, looking up as if Steve had disturbed him, pulling up his lip to snarl at the blond.
âNo no, lights out please, thank you,â Peter said quickly, and reached out to pet his hand over the wolfâs large head in between his ears.
The team didnât know what they were seeing. Couldnât believe it. Tony immediately went docile, licking his chops, nuzzling Peterâs hand for a second, and then going back to eat his dinner. Clint cursed.
âHe doesnât much like the light. I donât know why either. But he was very hungry so I gave him a steak. I hope nobody was gonna eat that. Um.â Peter gave a sheepish smile and a shrug.
One of their communication devices crackled quietly and Steve reached for it. Rhodeyâs voice came over the receiver.
âYou guys find Peter and Tony yet?â
Steve slowly lifted it to speak into it.
âWe just did. Found both of them in the kitchen. And I think weâve found a solution to the chain problem.â
The radio was silent for a moment before it crackled to life again.
âWhat do you mean? Whatâs the situation? Is the kid still alive?â
âHe is. You should come see for yourself,â Steve said, and reattached the device to his belt.
Peter looked confused. Heâd heard the conversation, of course, but didnât understand. He didnât understand why the team was out with walkies in the middle of the night apparently looking for Peter and Tony, and he didnât understand why Steve said theyâd found the both of them in the kitchen because as far as Peter was concerned there was no Tony in sight, and he also didnât understand why they were looking at Peter like that. Should he not have given the dog the steak?
Steve caught Peterâs befuddled look and knew what it meant.
âThatâs not a dog, Peter,â he explained slowly while Peter continued to put his hand through the wolfâs fur, even giving him a fat kiss on the head, which the wolf seemed to accept all too easily. Peter only looked more puzzled.
âPeter,â Natasha interjected gently, âThatâs Tony.â
Suddenly it hit Peter like a truck. Full moon, howling, big dog walking around the med bay.
Werewolves.
And this absolutely stunning, big dog who had come into his hospital room snarling at the sight of a human until he caught a whiff of something and it immediately calmed him down to the point he was came trotting over to Peterâs bedside to lay his big head in the boyâs lap and lick at his hands and whine until Peter would pet himâŠ
âOh my god,â Peter breathed to the wolf, who was looking up at him with a kind of intelligence in his eyes that Peter hadnât noticed before.
âYouâre Mr. Stark.â

Goretober D31: Halloween House of Horrors- NCT 2020
NCT 2020 + Gender Neutral Reader
Warnings: sirens, werewolves, hybrids, vampires, fallen angels, ghosts, zombies, demons, devil, creepy doctors, mad scientists, serial killers, fangs, mildly suggestive themes.
Word Count: 4,651
Note: Hendery is in this despite the current situation. That part was written long before anything happened. I havenât included him in the tags, since I know that is important and will not help clear the tags. Still I put this out. If the situation doesnât resolve Iâll consider editing this piece, depending on how much time I have and so on. If it does resolve I may consider adding him to the tags.
âHi! Welcome aboard as part of the NCT House of Horrors this year. I know it seems a little early for you to be here, but we have so things to get in order before we can open the haunted house to the public. That being said Iâve arranged this list of things we need that Iâd like for you to get. Iâll text it to you along with directions on where to look for them.â Your new boss informs you and soon enough your phone dings,
~1 New Message~
- 3 Sirens
-2 Hybrids
- 2 Werewolves
- 2 Vampires
-2 Fallen Angels
- 2 Ghosts
- 2 Zombies
- 2 Demons
- 1 Devil
- 1 Creepy Doctor
- 2 Mad ScientistsÂ
-2 Serial Killers
Your brows furrow as you look over the list and the map that your boss had texted you before looking up at them again, âOh so you need me to find actors for the house then?â
Your new boss practically rolls with laughter at your question, shaking their head, â No silly. The reason why our house is always the best, is because we donât work with actors, we use the real thing. Iâd be careful too the werewolves can be especially feisty around some of the others. That map should have fairy accurate locations from where they are and as long as youâve got the badge I gave you on you should be fine! If you run into any problems just look into the manual I gave you, you should also find starting rates of pay for each of them in there as well. Good luck!âÂ
With that your boss is back inside the house closing the large double doors shut behind them, leaving you on your own with the task of collecting together what you thought a few moments ago were nonexistent beings. Looking over the locations on the map your boss had given you, you try to determine the most logical path to use to get everywhere. It meaning that you were starting with the sirens, likely one of the most dangerous ones youâd be dealing with. Yet, the coast came up before anything else, and so that seemed like the most logical starting place.Â
The ocean not seeming so keen on you being it's latest visitor as the sky filled with dark clouds, only occasionally brightening with a crack of lightening only to return to darkness as waves crashes ashore. Your breath shaky as you step closer soon hearing voices mingled in with the waves, signaling that you've found what you were searching for. Though they still managed to startle you.
"Well what do we have here? Such a pretty human all alone. That's not safe for you." A voice calls from the side the man it belongs to shaking his head a little and sending droplets flying from his still damp hair as two other dripping men hung out behind him.
Your hand shakes slightly as you point out the badge to them, "I-I was sent here to hire some sirens for our haunted house. Would you three be interested?"
One of the other men chuckles as your voice trembles and you try to shake off your tremors to flip through the manual to find what you were to offer them.
The third man snickering slightly before speaking up, "Don't bother precious, we've worked there before we know the pay. If you're gonna be the one there with us then I'll accept at least. I'm Renjun. This is Jaemin and Mark.... I'm sure we'd all love to join you."
"G-Great I still have to find the others for the house is it alright if you head there in your own?" You inquire assuming they knew the way if they'd been before.
"I mean we could, but that wouldn't be a horrible thing to do considering you're going to be going to unsafe places alone then. We'll come with. Offer you some help." Jaemin offers with a soft smirk that had you gulping as your spot the sharp teeth. Maybe this job hadn't been the best idea....it was too late to back down now though. Next you would have to make your way to find the hybrids. Assuming from the wording that any variety would be fine for the house.
"So precious where are we off to? What do we have to find?" Mark asks as he slinks in closer, arm slipping around your middle and causing you to tense a little at being so close to someone so potentially dangerous.
"We need two hybrids they should be between here and the werewolves." You let him know as you looked over the map, earning a soft hum in acknowledgement.
"We know where to find them." Renjun lets you know, taking the lead as Mark and Jaemin stood at either side of you, even if Mark kept his arm to himself now. You were somewhat relieved they weren't using their abilities to trap you, but you were sure that didn't mean they wouldn't use their teeth or anything if they felt like it. Yet, your boss had assured you protection somehow so at this point you'd just have to trust that.
"We're getting close to hybrid territory now, we'll have to keep an eye out, we'll probably run into some soon. Or more of they'll find us." Jaemin is already glancing around for any signs that someone might have caught onto your being there.
Things so silent that you felt as if your heartbeat echoed through the forest, a hazy fog only making your vision worse. Though the sirens with you didn't seem too fazed by it. Though they did freeze as a low growl sounded behind you all, it feeling as though the deep rumble of it vibrates through your soul.
"Just what are you all doing here? Did the little human really think an escort of sirens would keep them safe through our territory?" The voice practically mocked, whoever owned it staying well hidden between the trees still, leaving you only vaguely aware of the direction he was in.
Mocking laughter coming from the opposite direction as suddenly as the first voice came, "Unlucky for you sweet thing sirens won't stop us one bit."
"Show them your badge." Mark whispers to your trembling form, your hands shaking as you move to hold up your badge for them to see.
"I-I'm just passing through to search for some hybrids to come work at our haunted house. The sirens are coming with to the house as well." The laughter rings out again in response to your stuttering voice. The two hybrids stepping into your line of sight as they still move to circle you as if sizing your group up. One a black panther hybrid, with piercing eyes, his long tail flicking behind him. The other a spotted hyena hybrid, explaining the laughter, his sharp teeth much more noticeable than the panther's as he seems to still be chuckling softly at your group.
"Oh so you are untouchable sweet thing....if going to the house means being around you maybe we'll take up your offer. I'm Jeno and the hyena hybrid is Taeil." The panther licks his lips as he eyes you up once more before nodding to the other hybrid.
"Don't worry we won't bite~ Unless you ask is to that is~" Taeil adds with a playful snap of his teeth before giggling almost....almost.... innocently. They made you uncomfortable quite in the same way as the sirens had, but you knew that searching for other willing hybrids might take a lot of time and delay your getting back and getting away from them. So you decided to put up with it.
"Fine, you two can be the hybrids I guess....so next we need to find two werewolves." You determine looking over your list and map. Jeno scoffing and rolling his eyes at your mention of werewolves, but the way his tail bristled is what truly have him away even if the words wouldn't be admitted by the hybrid himself.
"Whatever let's just find them and move on with our lives." Jeno's words hold venom as he takes the lead. For the first time since you've met you notice Taeil doesn't seem to laugh as he trails behind the younger. Things seeming much tenser than you had thought it had been with the sirens when going to find the hybrids, not that you had a big cat leading the way to wolves. Jeno pausing suddenly, ears twitching towards the trees to your left.
âTheyâre here.â Taeil tells you glancing that way as well, âYou might want to make yourself known before the blood bath starts though.â
His words werenât fast enough to motivate you, but the growls being exchanged between Jeno and the forest certainly were.
âWait, we arenât here to fight!â You quickly call out holding up your hands, badge showing in one, âIâm here to hire some werewolves for our haunted house!â
You hear a scoff before two faces show through the darkness, drawing closer the oneâs ears a white while the other a rusty brown color.
âLet me guess weâll be stuck working with the cat again?â The one who scoffed rolls his eyes as he speaks.
âW-Well heâs going to be working there yes. Though whether you two will be in the same area I canât say for sure...â You stutter out hearing the rumbling growl from behind you where Jeno paces eyeing the wolves cautiously.
âWeâre in.â The one with rusty brown ears chuckles, âIâm Hendery and this is Sicheng.â He nods his head towards the one with white ears who is slowly stalking closer to you.
âYou smell good, thatâs definitely a perk.â Sicheng gives you a hungry grin, almost on top of you before Jeno slips between you both baring his teeth at the wolf.
âWe were here first mutt! Back. Off.â Jenoâs growl is met by both Sichengâs and Henderyâs, not phased by being out numbers as Taeil paced anxiously behind you knowing how ugly this could get very quickly. Clearing your throat and stomping your foot you gather their attention to you.
âIâm under protection by working for the haunted house, yes?â Your question has them nodding despite being a little lost at the suddenness of where it seemed to come from, âWell then since all of you are employees of them now too that protection applies to all of you now, even from other workers. Whatâs more, we donât have time for this right now. We donât even have half the people we need to gather. Now if this really is going to be a problem Iâll send all of you off without me so you can be separated.â
Your threat to make them leave you seems to stick as they shape up, throwing a few muttered growls as a final point before turning away from each other.
âWe arenât going to go anywhere and let you get yourself lost or worse all alone in these woods. Besides itâs not like it can get worse than this. So who are we going to get next?â Hendery inquired as you looked over the map on your phone once more.
âNext we need to find two vampires.â You inform him with a sharp nod before heading in the direction that the map said as he sighs loudly.
âI stand corrected, it can apparently get much worse.â He mumbles behind you as Sicheng takes the lead through their territory, though he slowly falls back behind you as your group leaves his comfort zone and enters the vampires territory, knowing itâd be safer for him to be behind you now.
âWow is it really that time already? You little humans sure love that haunted house donât you?â A voice chuckles before a man, or vampire rather, appears before you.
âLucas I donât think it would be wise if you came this year, not after what happened between us last year.â Sicheng counters only making Lucas smirk wickedly.
âOh? And let you have this pretty little thing all to yourself? I donât think so.â Lucas steps closer holding eye contact with you, âThey still need you to get fallen angels little one?â
You blink at him for a moment, looking between him and the list before nodding meekly, âY-Yes, but I need another vampire first too.â
âJust follow me little one, weâll find you another vampire and the fallen angels in the same spot.â Lucas insists turning to lead the way, expecting you to follow instead of waiting for you to actually move. The wolves especially bristling as you scurry after him, knowing he was leading you right into the heart of his coven. That being where the fallen angels that they found would stay in a highly esteemed position. Knowledge that you didnât have until you were standing before the castle that was bustling with the liveliest nature a place that seemed to scream death could. This being the energy you assumed the haunted house you worked for hoped to achieve.Â
âSo they did send someone today hmm?â A man chuckles as you follow Lucas inside, âGuess that means I lot the bet and will be joining you. Iâm Haechan.âÂ
He addresses you at the end, when he finally looks over your form. Taking his time to appreciate your appearance before licking his lips and giving the quickest flash of his fangs, before his grin is gone.
âWhy are you here though? You could have just called me.â Haechan turns back to the other vampire.Â
âShe was tasked with getting a few fallen angels too, and I thought everyone might just appreciate the view...â Lucas smirks eyeing you up again.Â
âIt is a nice view and I doubt some of us would mind coming to help them with whatever.â The voice belongs to the same person whose gaze pierces your form from over the banister, âIf they need more than one of us I have an idea of someone who might like to tag along too. Wouldnât you Yuta?â
âI certainly would.â Another man nods in agreement as he descends the stairwell before you, âWhat do you say pretty? Do Johnny and I seem like the perfect fallen angels for you?â
From the way Yuta smugly grinned at you it seemed as though he already knew what you would say.
âS-Sure, I mean Iâm not too particularly picky. I just need to find people and get them back.â You try to seem unfazed, but something about them just seemed to affect you. The sirens seemed to pick up on it though, Mark moving to look into your eyes to break off their affect with his own, before breaking his so you could think clearly.
âNone of that now. You know the rules so play by them or there will be trouble.â Jaemin adds from behind you. Yuta snickers but backs down for the time being at least.Â
Haechan tilts his head watching you, âSo little human where are we off to next?â
âNext we have to find some ghosts.â You tell him, holding a map in a way so that a lot in your group could see if they so choose.
âAh they might be harder to find, they can be a little shy at times.â Johnny sighs before leading the way, âYou may have to call out to no one when we get there and see if any are willing to show themselves after hearing what you have to say.âÂ
You nod in understanding as you leave the coven for the forest again, specifically a clearing in the forest. Filled with ruins from a collapse block city, fog settling in as you enter it.Â
âH-Hello? Iâm here with the haunted house to ask some ghosts to come work there for us. Weâre hoping to get two to join us, when we get there we can offer you different things, or I can show you some of the incentives in this book here.â You feel silly talking to the air since you didnât see anyone yet.
âOh, thatâs why youâre here? Does that mean we can be friends if we come with you?â A voice sounds behind you before a foggy face is besides yours, smiling and wide eyed looking at you. He looked so young and innocent that you wondered what could have possibly happened to him.
âS-Sure, whatâs your name?â You ask turning to face him hoping for no more surprises.
âIâm Chenle! And I know a friend who would be willing to come too, heâs just a little shy, but I can go get him!â The ghost beams as you from his spot, letting you nod before vanishing before your eyes again. Appearing only a moment later with another ghost besides him, âThis is my friend Xiaojun. Heâll come too!âÂ
âHello Xiaojun.â You smile giving the shier ghost a small wave, which he returns fading a little bit as he hides behind his friend observing the whole group, âItâs alright, the second you join us youâre guaranteed protection from anyone and anything.â
Your assurance seems to lure him out a little further until he came to stand by your side. If he could have he likely would have grabbed your hand at this point, considering the chill that ran over your arm only a moment after he took a spot at your side.
âNext weâre off to find some zombies, do you know where weâre going Xiaojun?â He nods in response, but seems hesitant about leading the way, glancing between you and the path ahead.
âI can lead the way! Xiaojun can stay with you and just double check where weâre going!â Chenle offers happily as he already drifts away towards the direction of the zombies.
âI-Iâm friends with one of the zombies you should let me go get them, itâs safer than you going in there where they all are. Even if you have protection.â Xiaojunâs voice is in a soft whisper as he speaks to you.
âIf thatâs what youâd like to do then sure go get your friends. Iâll wait here for you to bring them to me, as long as you trust them, and then weâll be on our way. Simple as that.â You smile, giving him some soft encouragement to do what he suggested and go to get them himself.
Xiaojun vanishing before your eyes before twirling back into view only moments later with two what you would assume are zombies following behind him, â This is Sungchan and Chittaphon, but you can call him Ten if itâs easier.â
You look at Chenle with wide eyes, leaning over to whisper softly to him, âThey look so human like.âÂ
Chenle giggles, âZombies arenât as dramatically obvious as most humans think. Theyâre pretty well hidden, like vampires. Youâve probably seen one before, which is fine. Theyâre only really dangerous in large groups and they come out here when they struggle to control themselves.â
You pickup on what he meant as you look at them again to see their hungry eyes and the way Chittaphon licks his lips while looking at you that way. You shuddering in effect and almost cowering away.
âItâs okay, youâre not in danger. We just canât help but notice how delicious you look pretty.â Sungchan smiles so sweetly at you. Too many of them looked far too innocent to be so deadly, you wondered if the same would be true for those who were still left to get. Tensing only for a moment as Chittaphon links his arm with yous.
âMay I see the map? Iâd like to know where weâre going.â Chittaphon blinks at you, looking over your shoulder at the item in question.
âO-Oh um sure...here you go Ten.â You angle it better for him to see as he hums softly.
âThis should be interesting. Who exactly are you going to get from there?â Chittaphon inquires with a raised brow.
âWell....next on the list is...âYou pause, gulping as you realize who is next for you to get, âN-Next is the devil and two demons.â
âWill Doyoung allow that?â Sungchan looks at some of the others to answer his question knowing that you would be lost.
âHe always says that itâs based on how busy they are, but in reality he does it based on how attractive the person asking is. So in this case Iâd bet that itâll be fine.â Haechan chuckles and you feel yourself flushing a little at the compliment despite who it was coming from. Not realizing how much jealousy it might stir up in the whole group as you felt heat rise to your cheeks. Though for an entirely different reason than the heat you felt on your skin when you reached the gates of hell.
âWell whatâs such an angelic thing like you doing someplace like this? Looking for trouble?â One of the two men standing guard at the gates asked.
âN-No, no trouble, I-I just came here because I was tasked with getting the devil and some demons to make our haunted house better.â You respond, eyes squinting slightly at the flashes from the scorching fires behind them.
âHm weâll see what he has to say then. You better hope this isnât a waste of his time though. Or there will be trouble.â The other man says before disappearing into the flames, returning with a third man behind him. One with piercing red eyes.
âWell hello pretty, YangYang said you needed something?â He smirks almost lazily at you, seeming oh so comfortable in your presence at the moment.Â
âY-Yes, Iâm supposed to see about bringing the devil and some demons with me.â You inform him, opening the page designated for him to display it for them to see.
âWell pretty it would be our pleasure to join you. I think we can make that work at least for a while. Especially to enjoy your presence a little longer. As for introductions Iâm Doyoung the devil himself. The one who came to get me is YangYang and the diligent guard is Shotaro. Theyâll be the ones joining us.â Doyoung snaps and the gates open, the three slipping out to join your group before they close behind them once again.
âWell you have quite the large group here is that everyone now?â Shotaro looks over the various people who have been ardently following you the whole time.
âWe have to collect a few more people as we go through the city to get back to the haunted house. Though apparently three will be in the hospital together, one is a doctor and two work in the labs there.â You glance at the map before starting off again, âAfter that weâll just need to find some serial killers and then thatâll be everyone.âÂ
Though coming upon the hospital you hadnât been expecting it to be empty, the abandoned building lit by only a trail of lights leading off into either direction. Debating before deciding to go to the right first and following the stairwell up until you were met with another lit trail. Following it and the slowly growing sounds of clanking in the distance.
âHello? Is anyone here? I was sent to find some people at this hospital.â You call out, eyes widening as a head pokes out from a doorway in the distance before the figure steps out, looking over you.
âWhy hello doll. You look perfectly healthy who on earth could you be looking for here?â The man questions though his smiles is slightly off-putting, letting you know he was likely one of the ones you were looking for.
âHave you worked for the haunted house before? As there creepy doctor? I was told I could find them and the mad scientists here.â You try to calm you rapidly beating heart as your fight or flight response tried to kick in once again.
âI certainly am who youâre looking for doll, Iâm Qian Kun, the mad scientists though are the other direction when you first come in. Go get them while I wrap up what Iâm doing and Iâll meet you at the entrance, okay?â Despite your being a little curious as to what exactly he had been doing you were too afraid to do anything other than go look for the others, afraid you might see something that would continue to haunt you afterwards. So you followed the lights back past the entrance and to the stairwell on the opposite side of the hospital, following it down until you were met once again by more lights. Greeted this time by the sound of shattering glass.
âAre there any people down here, who would be willing to be mad scientists at a haunted house?â You call out not sure what exactly they could have dropped everywhere or if it was dangerous.
âOh! Is it already that time of year again?â You hear a voice chuckle before two men slip out of the room, pushing their goggles atop their heads.
âSounds like it would be a great time.â The other smiles at you, âWeâll gladly come with. Iâm Taeyong.â
âAnd Iâm Jisung.â The other waves, â Looks like you have almost everyone already. Letâs get going then, we wouldnât want to take too long getting back. After all Iâm sure thereâs still more to prepare before people can start showing up.â
You nod and quickly retrace your steps to the entrance where Kun is waiting for you, smiling at the sight of you, âSo who do you have left?â
âJust some serial killers it says.â You bite your lip slightly anxious about trying to find people like that without any harm to yourself.
âAh I know some, theyâve helped me with some research before. Is two enough?â Kun inquires already starting off in the direction he knew theyâd be in.
âYes, two is exactly what they wanted me to get.â You nod following him into a warehouse that smelled heavily of bleach.
âJaehyun? Jungwoo?â Kun called looking around, âIs it safe in here for innocent eyes? I have a pretty face here with a proposition for you both.â
âOh is that so?â One man asked with a grin as he appeared, wiping off his hands as another follows behind.
âItâs alright lovely, we just finished cleaning up. Thereâs nothing traumatic to see here, unless thatâs what you were hoping for.â The other seems too sweet for all the implications surrounding him.
âN-No Iâm alright. Iâm just here to ask if youâd be willing to work at the haunted house that sent me? They offer different things to the various people they want to come work for them.â You explain as the one puts his hand up to stop you from flipping through the book.
âWeâre aware of the stipulations lovely. Weâll come along. Itâll spice things up.â the first man shrugs.
âSo who is who then?â You question recalling the names Kun had called out when you had arrived.
âIâm Jungwoo and heâs Jaehyun.â The second man answered, Jaehyun tossing the cloth heâd been using to wipe his hands off to the side.
âWell lead the way lovely, youâre in charge now.â Jaehyun insisted, though despite his words you felt like the least in charge person of the entire group. Eager to get back to your boss before anything could go wrong or any little bickering could break out into something more.
âAh great work Y/N! Looks like you got everyone!â You boss excitedly joined you, â You can go help with the inside of the house now if you want.â
Once you had left your boss turned to the group that had followed you here, âSo have you all decided what you want as payment?â
The response among them was almost immediate and entirely unanimous in decision......

Faebruary/Febuwhump Day 17
Prompt: Field Surgery
(We are taking today VERY literally folks...)
Robin picks a handful of yarrow clusters and tucks them into his bag as well, snapping off only the tops with his knife. The plants he leaves rooted to continue growing.
Thereâs a balance to give and take, in nature, and while he knows itâs illogical, some part of him thatâs latched onto Johnâs somewhat superstitious nature is telling him that maybe if he doesnât take too much from it, it wonât take John from him.
He knows thatâs not how this works.
But itâs the only thing he can control right now.
Heâs painfully familiar with life and death, and the fact that they are inextricably intertwined. Thereâs no room in his world for not understanding it. There is no chance for forgetting that nature is a harsh place and completely beyond a humanâs capacity to reason with.
Even fae can be bargained with, despite how dangerous it can be for a human to attempt that. Nature...just is. Neither cruel nor kind, simply existing. Most days, Robin finds it comforting that the place heâs most at home is not a place that can treat him with true malice. But today, heâs finding it hard to accept that it also will treat them with no compassion.
It had been a perfectly good hike until John literally stumbled over the wreckage of an old tree. A piece of shattered wood had somehow slid under his pant leg just above the boot, and left a five-inch gash up his calf.
Robin has seen worse. John insists he has too.
The problem is, theyâre a two day hike (and Robin pushes back the thought that that was two days with John in perfect health) from the nearest thing approaching human civilization, and while the wound bled freely, theyâre down a first aid kit. A very determined bear climbed partway up a tree to get at their packs one night, and their well-stocked kit vanished with it into the forest.
John insists it had to be Bigfoot or werewolves, because what use would a bear have for a first aid kit? Robin counters with the fact that both those legends come from shifter-fae sightings and a fae would have absolutely no use for a human medical supply kit.
Their emergency sat phone fell victim to the same attack, not taken but bitten clean through as if it was a high-tech dog toy, and Maira doesnât expect them back from the mountains for a week. No one will be coming to get them. Theyâre on their own.
Iâve met humans who envy the fae for living, in their words âso close to natureâ. But the truth is, to live like this, you have to make your peace with the fact that you may not survive it for long. The fae have to accept death as just as much a possibility as life. And today, Robin doesnât want to.
âŠ
TWENTY MINUTES EARLIER
John holds out his knife. âWell, on the bright side, we donât actually need to build a fire for this.â
âYou canât be serious.â Robin looks at the shining blade of the Bowie knife. âIâm not cauterizing your leg. If I do that...it could get infected. Faster.â
âAnd if you donât, I have to walk on it, risk opening it up again, and bleeding out up here.â John shakes his head. âI have to walk. You canât carry me out. And an infectionâs probably gonna happen anyway. Not like we have a clean surgical suite up here.â
âI could try and sutureâŠâ Robin offers.
âWith what? Yogi ripped off our supplies in case you forgot.â
âAt least youâre accepting the fact that it was a bear now,â Robin mumbles. âI could find a bone shard, or a porcupine quill...and thereâs thread on our clothesâŠâ
âWhich is just as bad as the burn. Trust me. We have to get out of here, the sooner the better. This is the fastest way.â
Robin swallows. âOkay, but...Iâm gonna try and make a salve for it, to keep it healthy as long as I can. Thatâs gonna take me some time.â
âThatâs okay.â John sighs. âIâm gonna need to pad a branch for a crutch anyway.â He shrugs, wincing. âWell, letâs get on with it. More time we waste, the more blood Iâm losing.â
Robin nods, looking down at where heâs cut the pant leg away from the raw red wound. He rests the tips of his fingers on the knife blade, watching the metal turn red and heat rise shimmering from it.
John pulls off one of his wrist cuffs and bites down on the leather, then nods.
And then Robin presses the flat of the blade to the gash, holding his breath to block out the terrible smell of scorched flesh and wishing he could cover his ears to stop hearing the muffled scream.
âŠ
âOkay, I got what I need.â Robin sets the sticky honeycomb down on a fairly clean, flat stone and starts laying out the rest of his ingredients.
He was already carrying small pouches of comfrey and St. Johnâs wort from his garden, and he was fortunate to find both yarrow and plantain growing wild in the meadow nearby.
âThe honey will make a base for the ointment and also help slow down infection,â Robin explains, not sure if itâs more for his benefit or Johnâs as he squeezes the comb into one of their tin bowls. âThis wonât be exact portions, not like I make at home for myself, butâŠâ He begins grinding together the herbs on stones that he left with John to wash with hot water from over the campfire before he scampered off.
Robin pauses, fingers stilling in the thick paste. Wait, this will work on humans...wonât it? He runs through his mental list of the ingredients. He knows theyâre safe for fae. But...he canât be sure if theyâll work on humans.
He knows theyâre all safe for him, but the thing about fae is, their nature remains dominant down to one-sixteenth ancestry, just like their magic. Robin is only one-fourth fae, but heâs still allergic to iron and most human medications, bound by his true-name and his promises, and able to summon his element. Fae cures are really the only medicine he trusts to work on him.
John isnât fae at all.
Itâs possible Robin is as dangerous to John as anything else out here. While he has a very human side, thereâs also plenty of the fae in him, making him far more like the world around them right now than he cares to admit. Heâs everything John called him at first. Dangerous. Unpredictable. Maybe even deadly.
âIâŠâ Robin pauses. âYou donât know if any of those are toxic to humans, do you?â
âDonât think so.â John frowns. âI recognize all but the St. Johnâs wort from Abuela Rosaâs cures. And...that plant looked familiar when you pulled it out of your bag so I think she just called it something different.â He gives Robin a lopsided smile, one that slightly softens the creases of pain around his mouth. âYouâre not the only one who had a grandparent obsessed with herbal cures.â
The tight knot in Robin's stomach loosens a little.
âRobin, I trust you.â Johnâs hand wraps around his wrist, resting on top of the wrist guard. âYouâre not gonna hurt me. I know you wonât.â
Robin takes a deep breath. âWell, actually, I already did. And probably will again; this will sting on the burn at first.â
âDarn fae honesty. Youâre probably right, this is gonna hurt.â John shrugs. âLetâs get it over with.â

TwiFicMas20 Day 11: Hybrid, once again
Itâs so late and Iâve had a day of... futility, so Iâm pulling out some Hybrid, which is just the biggest fic Iâve ever attempted and makes me feel slightly woozy. This is a selection of scenes Iâve worked on, with the first one following on from last yearâs snippet, for context
A lot of this is set-up to how Alice actually becomes friends with the Cullens and the lead up to her relationship with Jasper. I also love Alice and Cynthia and their gay dads. A lot of this will be changed or rewritten for the Official Version, so I figure it deserves to be immortalised before I start my tear-down.Â
Have a great day, Iâm off to bed <3Â
NSFWÂ NSFWÂ NSFW. (The most graphic section is marked, but there are implications dotted throughout. Use your best judgement.)
Trigger warnings for body dysphoria (minor)
(AU in which Alice is the daughter of a vampire-human hybrid, who was raised in an abusive home, and ends up in the care of her father and his husband in Forks. Hybrid biology is a little different - or rather, expanded - from canon. This was basically my attempt at expanding the Twilight universe beyond vampires and werewolves and examine the idea that humans are really the worst. At this point in the story, Alice has arrived in Forks, had a less than welcoming experience with the Cullen kids and met Dr Cullen in a professional capacity.)
--
It took me the best part of an hour to walk home from the Cullens. My head was still soupy, the Cullensâ home was outside of town, and I had no idea where I was going.
Oh, and it was dark.
And then I had to lie, and tell Dad and Simon some guy had mugged me, since they were freaking out. I had been gone two hours in an unfamiliar town, and had come home with blood on my clothes. Thank god, my hoodie managed to cover up most of the bandage on my neck.
They had promptly freaked out even more, and called the Chief of Police to report the incident I completely faked, whilst I went upstairs for a shower, peeling off the bandages to get a load of the wound. Angry black sutures ran from an inch or so below my ear, to where my neck joined my shoulder in an uneven line. It made me feel a little woozy, in all honesty. And it would be almost impossible to hide from everyone. Â Maybe I could wear a scarf, and claim I wasnât used to the cold?
And the bruise on my back was impressive, even for me. It was already darkening, and I had no doubt that it would only get worse overnight. An experimental jab to my ribs made the room spin, which made me want to cry. If there was one thing I hated more than anything on the planet, it was broken ribs.
I somehow managed to shower and change into a pair of loose pyjamas that covered all evidence of my injuries without blacking out. My head wouldnât clear, and when Simon brought up something for me to eat, I could hear the slur in my voice. Dr Cullen must have drugged me.
It took forever for me to find a tolerable position in bed, and I ended up sleeping on my stomach, my arm cradling my ribs. My dreams â thankfully, just dreams â were soupy horror replays of Jasperâs attack; the scrape of his teeth, the tearing, the warmth of my own bloodâŠ
⊠how good it had felt.
When my alarm finally went off after what felt like an hour, I was sleep deprived, grumpy, and in complete agony. I could barely clamber out of bed. I wriggled out of my pajamas, and stared at myself in the mirror. The bruising covered my side was varying shades of black and blue, spread over my shoulder, ribs and back, down to the base of my spine and hip. There was a little swelling, but nothing really worth mentioning.
I ended up finding a button-up dress that I could get into with minimal discomfort, that covered up the bruises, and some of the stitches. Adding a sweater covered the rest up, and I spent nearly half an hour layering concealer and foundation over my pinched and pale face. I swallowed a handful of Advil to help the pain, before I limped downstairs.
Other than a quick reassurance that I was fine, Dad and Simon didnât bring up last nightâs âmuggingâ, and within an hour, I was limping awkward across the Forks High car park, in what felt like a new adventure in pain.
My ribs were probably fractured. God, I was kidding myself. They were definitely fractured. I just needed some decent pain-killer and medical tape, and Iâd feel better. This wasnât exactly a new experience, but it didnât mean that they were any less uncomfortable, or I was any less miserable.
Luckily, everyone seemed to have lost interest in me as âthe new girlâ, so I limped through the halls without being stared at, or interrupted. Swinging open my locker, I gratefully shoved my bag inside â even carrying it by hand put too much weight on my back and ribs. Iâd have to swap books after each class so I could carry them comfortably. Another cherry on top of my awful, hideous day.
Suddenly, there was another person beside me, staring intently. If my nerves werenât already made of adamantium, I probably would have jumped or shrieked in surprised.
âGood morning,â Edward said.
âMorning,â I said, turning from digging through my books, trying to disguise the stiffness of my movements.
âDid you sleep okay?â he asked politely, and I wanted to laugh at his slightly-creepy attempts at small talk. That isnât a question you normally ask someone you just met, out of nowhere. Did they just not socialize with anyone who didnât consider A Positive a main course?
âSure.â
âYou should sit with us at lunch,â Edward said in a flat tone, watching me with the sort of look my doctors had always used. It had unnerved me then, and it irritated me now; made me feel like an experiment all over again. If I hadnât been wounded, I would have accepted the inevitable dislocated fingers and slapped him.
Dislocated fingers are easy to pop back into place.
âCanât wait,â I said dismissively, mentally praising myself for taking the higher ground, and turned back to my locker, hoping Edward hadnât noticed how awkwardly I was moving.
Edward watched me rifle through my locker before sighing and walking away, looking pained. I had to resist the urge to stick my tongue out at him, instead slamming my locker and shuffling to my first class.
--
Lunch was bad. I got a sandwich, and limped to the Cullensâ table, where they all stared as I sat. Quite frankly, every time I took a seat, the world around me swam before my eyes.
I took a seat at the end of the table, ignoring the glances that the Cullens were shooting me as I opened my soda, and unwrapped the sandwich.
âIs that for our benefit?â Rosalie asked boredly, nodding towards the sandwich, with a vague sneer of disgust on her face.
I shook my head. âOnly for mine,â I said dully, studying my food. It hadnât occurred to me that my lunch would smell terrible to them, only that I needed to eat so I could take some more painkiller. I hadnât even really paid attention to their trays â I could see now that they were dotted with cans of soda, fruit, and packaged snacks. Nothing that would smell especially offensive to them â Mom had once told me that it was the preservatives and ingredients mixed together that were the worst to vampire sense; that, and that they could smell decay much faster than humans.
Lunch passed slowly â Edward and Bella chatted quietly, and every so often one of the other Cullens would make a comment, but mostly we sat in silence. I picked at my lunch, and felt my back throb in pain, before the bell finally rung, and they all moved to collect their trays and bags.
I was irritated â why invite me to eat at their table for lunch, when it had been awkward, uncomfortable, and no one had talked?
Whatever. I struggled to my feet and silently left, pausing only to dump my tray, and headed to the library to hide out until the end of the day.
//
Bella was staring at me as I changed out of my gym clothes, the two of us the last ones in the locker room.
âIs that where JasperâŠ?â she asked as I tugged my shirt on, my jacket following. My back was a rainbow of black, purple and green; so bad that Iâd been forced to wear dark colours â you could see the marks through lighter-coloured fabric.
âUh huh,â I said. âBrick wall, meet spine.â
âTheyâre pretty worried about you,â Bella said as I carefully shouldered my bag. âCarlisle and Esme want to see you again.â
âThey donât have to worry about me,â I shrugged and winced, regretting the movement. So, I didnât quite have my full-range of movement back just yet. âIâm fine.â
Bella watched as I gathered my stuff. âThey still need an explanation.â
âTheyâll be waiting awhile â they clearly told you everything,â I said flatly. It was unspoken, but they clearly expected me not to say anything about them and their secrets, yet they were blabbing my secrets around. Â
âYou owe it to them, you know everything,â she informed me snootily.
I whipped around, enough for the pain in my back to flare hotly, which just made me madder. âI owe them nothing,â I snapped at her. âThey clearly canât keep their mouths shut when they donât know anything, so why would I tell them more? And donât sit there, all high-and-mighty, Bella Swan. You know nothing.â
And I stormed off.
--
Bella clearly ran and tattled on me to Edward, because after school, I saw the Cullens glaring at me as I walked towards the bus. Well, Edward was giving me Death Glares
//
Dr Cullen finally cornered me for a physical, telling Simon to bring me over on Saturday morning. I nearly threw a fit, even though my dreams the night before had made it clear that I wouldnât be getting out of it easily.
My dreams about Jasper were getting more and more vivid, and the idea of physical contact was so unbearable, I was jumping and flinching when Simon and Dad were getting too close to me. Which was a problem, since Simon was a hugger.
I was sick to my stomach when Simon took me over, clutching the smoothie heâd made me for breakfast. I was wearing loose yoga pants and a t shirt under a sweatshirt to keep everything covered.
Dr Cullen hissed as he saw me in my underwear â the webbing over my chest, the bites on my throat and arms, the angry scar at the back of my left leg, the angry marks on my rib cages.
âWhat on earth happened to you, Alice?â he asked.
âHard life,â I shrugged, crossing my arms over my chest. âCan we get this over with?â
âOf course,â Dr Cullen nodded.
â
More than one morning, Iâd woken up from my dreams about Jasper with my hand between my legs, sweaty and panting and absolutely ashamed â even sick to my stomach.
All of the Cullen children had made it clear I was their friend out of necessity, rather than interest, and that Rose and Edward barely tolerated me. The idea of a genuine friendship with Jasper was a pipe-dream, let alone an opportunity to recreate my dreams.
Even as my inner-voice pointed out that they werenât dreams.
And besides, sex was something that was not a good idea. At all. I wasnât a virgin and I hadnât been in years. I still had terrors and flashbacks to those terrible, monstrous experiences, I couldnât imagine it being good, let alone as pleasurable as my brain claimed it would be. In the harsh light of day, I didnât want anybody touching me.
And who would even want to, with my skinny, scarred body. The curves I had were easily hidden by my clothing. Â Short hair. Sour disposition. Iâd be alone forever.
It was raining, which suited my mood perfectly when I arrived at school. With the Cullensâ tentative acceptance of me, at least at lunch, I had isolated myself even more from the rest of the student body.
There had been entire days when answering roll call and greeting the Cullens at lunch where the only words I spoke. My personal best was eight words.
I drifted from class to class, finally getting to the cafeteria and claiming my lunch. A soda, an apple and a brownie â there was no way I was going to even pretend to eat the runny tuna salad or the luminous orange mac and cheese.
I hadnât said anything to Dr Cullen, but I knew my physiology was not coping with my current diet. I was tired and sluggish, eating just two meals a day. In the hospital, Iâd had free access to as much milk and as many snacks as I needed. Now, I had to pretend I was normal, and was failing kind of badly, since Simon found the amount of food I packed away at meal times ridiculous.
âHey,â Emmett nodded at me as I arrived at the table.
âHey,â I said, taking a seat next to Bella, and opened my soda, and pulled my homework out.
It was the most painless way to fill in the lunch hour â reading was rude, and no one wanted to talk. So, schoolwork.
âYou going to eat that?â Rosalie interrupted me.
I looked up. Iâd drunk half the soda â revolting diet raspberry had been the only flavor left â and picked at the brownie over the half an hour, but none of it held any interest.
âProbably not,â I said, turning back to my math homework.
âYou should.â
Why was Rosalie still talking to me?
âItâs pretty gross,â I said, not looking up. âIâll eat at home.â
âBella eats it,â Rosalie said, gesturing at Bellaâs empty tray.
âRosalie,â Edward scowled, as Bella blushed prettily at being the center of attention.
âBella clearly has a less discerning palate,â I said, closing my books and standing up. âIf itâs so important to you, you can eat it, Rosalie.â
And I flounced off.
//
For some unholy reason, Simon and Dad had decided to have a pre-Thanksgiving cocktail party for their co-workers and friends. I stayed out of the planning and decorating, spending my time buried in my homework and ignoring everything around me.
Why Simon decided to invite the entire Cullen clan and Bella and her father, I have no idea. Maybe some misguided attempt to help me socialize. God, I hoped not.
But that meant, the afternoon before Thanksgiving I put on one of the dresses Simon had bought me â with tights â and went downstairs to help set up.
The Cullen kids seemed less than enthused to see me, though Edward was clearly pleased to see Bella.
âIâd apologise, but it wasnât my idea,â I said as I walked past Emmett and Rosalie with a tray of glasses.
âThis will be fun,â Emmett said cheerfully. âWe never get to see humans in their natural habitat.â
â
Jasper found me sitting in the kitchen, staring out at the backyard.
âHey,â he said.
âHey,â I replied, standing up. âDo you need something?â
âNo. It just gets a bit much, so many people in one place, with alcohol. Overwhelming,â he shrugged.
âI get it,â I said. âI mean, I canât imagine what itâs like for your gift. But I get being overwhelmed.â
He offered me a crooked smile. I smiled shyly back, and began stacking dirty glasses. What to say?
âCarlisle is worried about you.â
Apparently, the topic at hand was me.
âHe shouldnât,â I said, as I began to pack the dishwasher. âIâm okay.â
âEsme too â sheâs desperate for you to come over to our place so she can attempt to mother you to death,â he continued.
I thought of Mrs Cullen almost longingly for a moment â how sweet and kind she was. Nothing like Mom â Mom had never been warm and fuzzy. Mrs Cullen seemed like sheâd be a good mom.
âSheâs sweet, but Iâm okay, really.â
âDonât lie to an empath, Alice. I know exactly how you feel.â The ghost of a smirk played at his mouth and I turned to finish gathering up dirty cutlery.
âSo how do I feel?â I asked, looking over my shoulder.
Jasper met my gaze. âLike starlight â bright and beautiful, but distant. Thereâs sadness and longing, ferocity and loyalty, all hidden behind a very tall wall.â
//
Within fifteen minutes, I was being pressed into the couch, with the delicious weight of Jasper on top of me. Somehow, I was down to my tank top, and I was nearly positive the first few buttons of my jeans had been undone. Jasperâs mouth moved down my jaw, to my throat, and I sighed in delight. My hands slipped down, fumbling to get underneath. As my fingers grazed the hard flesh of his stomach, I heard him moan against my throat and I smiled.
âWe should stop,â he murmured in my ear.
âWhy?â I asked, choosing that moment to shift, aligning our hips, and hitching my knees up. He groaned, pressing me even harder into the couch, one hand tangling in my hair as he pulled me into a scorching kiss.
The sound of the back door opening was very distant, and it didnât register properly until Simonâs cheerful voice broke the moment.
âHaving some good, wholesome fun, kids?â he said.
Jasper only just barely managed to climb off me at human speed, and I half fell off the couch.
Simon was standing there, clutching a bag of groceries, looking amused. Cynthia was standing beside him, her jaw on the floor. Mostly likely because one of the famous Cullens was in her house, making out with her sister.
--
When Dad roped me into helping with the washing up, I knew he and Simon were going to corner me. And they did.
âAlice,â Dad said carefully, as I started wrapping up the leftovers. âSimon told me about how he found you and Jasper Hale this afternoon, and we wanted to chat with you.â
âIt wonât happen again,â I said, my eyes firmly on the bowl of leftover couscous.
âThatâs not what weâre worried about, sweetheart,â Simon said. âThough, yes, we might need to make some rules about boys in the house. But Alice⊠how long have you known this boy?â
I frowned, and looked over my shoulder. How did I explain that I knew Jasper, had known him for years? That with our gifts, the second we had met, this had been inevitable.
âSince I met him at school,â I said carefully. âIt kind of happened.â
âYouâre smart, Alice, and ⊠weâre only saying this because we love you and we donât want you to get hurt. But itâs only be a couple of weeks, and what I saw this afternoon looked very serious,â Simon continued, giving my father a Look.
âHoney, with the horrible things that happened to you, we just donât want you to rush into sex and a physical relationship,â Dad finished. âSometimes it can seem like it might make the hurt and the fear go away, but it doesnât if you rush into it.â
Oh god. This was horrifying. âJasper and I werenât⊠we arenâtâŠâ I managed, before taking a deep breath. âWe arenât having sex. We arenât planning on sex yet. He knows I have issues.â
Simon and Dad exchanged looks. âOkay,â Dad said finally

//
I was trembling slightly as Jasper settled between my thighs, kissing me softly. I was aware of everything â my nudity, Jasperâs nudity, the scent of flowers and fabric softener from my bedding. The coil of warmth in my lower stomach, the circles Jasper was gently tracing on my hip.
âHow are you feeling?â he murmured. I could feel him, cool and impossibly hard against my thigh, and I let out a shuddering breath.
âIâm okay,â I managed. âJust nervous. Itâs going to hurt.â
âOh darlinâ,â he pressed a kiss to my lips. âIf it hurts, Iâll stop. If you want me to, Iâll stop.â
I nodded. âCan you help me a little?â I whispered. âJust a little.â
âIf youâre sure?â he said and I nodded. He kissed me deeply, one hand sliding down my thigh to guide my leg around his waist. The warmth in my stomach spread, and the fear seemed to fade. I found myself rocking against him slightly, making indecent sounds.
It didnât hurt too badly; not like the other times, but I didnât want to think about those. Proportionately, it was always going to be slightly awkward and uncomfortable the first time around. I knew it would get better, I had seen how good at this weâd become.
That thought just made me press closer to him.
âYouâre so warm,â he groaned in my ear, kissing a trail to my neck. I gripped his shoulders, smirking to myself as he began to lick and suck at the juncture of my neck; a vampire with a neck fetish.
//
As I came back down to earth, panting and loose-limbed, Jasper moved about me, carefully but more erratically than before, his eyes darkening to pitch black. And without warning, he flung himself away from me, standing halfway across the room in less than a second.
âI need a moment,â he rasped, panting, his gaze firmly on me. Fuck. He looked like a god, standing there, his blackened gaze firmly on me. I wasnât sure if it was his gift, the way he looked, but the warmth was building in my stomach again.
//
My mother always talked about vampire mating practices, and made it sound monstrous. Brutal sex, a violent bite to mark each other, and the bond settling over you, like invisible manacles. Cold and vicious, it was meant to be the ultimate unbreakable claim. Â
In reality, it was nothing like that; his fingers stroking me, his arm around my waist, and then his mouth on my breast, his teeth biting down as I came apart in his arms, and then the soft lap of his tongue as he closed the wound.
//
Jasper slipped out before dawn with a deep kiss that I felt in my toes, his gaze glued to the throw I had hastily wrapped around myself, so that the neighbours wouldnât catch me hanging out of my window naked.
âDad and Simon wonât be home for hours,â I murmured as I leant in for another kiss. âStay.â
âAlice,â he groaned, nuzzling my cheek. âDonât tempt me. You need some sleep â and if I stay, there wonât be any sleep. Iâll see you later.â
I scowled but nodded, kissing him one last time. âGo.â
He jumped from my window, and I turned around. I needed clean sheets, a shower, and some sleep.
I just couldnât stop smiling.
Jasperâs bite stood out on the side of my left breast, raised and pink, though it was already healing. It would fade into my skin over the next day, little more than a shadow against my skin until I touched it and felt the ridges of his teeth-marks. Finally, a bite mark that didnât make me feel disfigured, or one that would be awkward to cover up. The memory of his teeth in my skin made me shiver; how his teeth were so sharp that it didnât hurt, and his soft growling purrs, as he licked the wound; the slight sting of the vemon, his lips and fingers grazing the closed wound with such gentle loveâŠ
I tumbled back into my bed, with clean sheets and wet hair. I did feel different. I felt peaceful, secure, and loved. I felt human for the first time in a long time.
And I slept without nightmares.
I dreamt, as well, of Jasper getting home and Emmettâs whoop of amusement, and subsequent teasing. Of Edward losing his shit over the idea of a vampire having sex with a human. Of Carlisle being vaguely concerned, Esme looking amused, and Rosalie pissed off that theyâd acquired another human pet. Sheâd be even more of a delight after this, I knew it.
âWake up, sleepyhead!â I jerked awake to Simon knocking on my door.

A Desperate Proposal - Ch 1
âHave you gone absolutely insane, Alec? What the fuck is this shit?â
Jace had barely even entered Alecâs office before he started yelling, waving the crumpled, fine linen paper bearing the official Seal of the Clave around wildly.Â
Alec sighed and leaned back in his chair, lifting his hands to scrub at his face. Sounding absolutely exhausted, he said, âAh. Jace. I see you got the memo.âÂ
Jace could feel himself going redder. âYes, Alec, letâs start with the fact that I found out that I was getting married in a fucking memo! Are you shitting me right now? A memo? What, were you too scared to tell me in person? You had to write it on fucking Clave stationary? This is a joke, right? Itâs got to be a joke. What the fuck is going on?âÂ
The room was quiet for a solid minute, apart from Jaceâs furious panting breaths. When Alec still didnât say anything he lowered the (goddamn) memo and finally looked at his parabatai. Alecâs head was resting on the back of the ornate chair, the very same one that six Heads of the New York Institute had sat in over the course of the last two hundred years, and he was staring blankly into space. There were deep purple bruises under his eyes and permanent frown lines had been carved into his brow and mouth that had slipped Jaceâs notice until now.Â
Jaceâs anger suddenly cooled, and he dropped heavily into the chair in front of Alecâs monstrous desk. Which he now saw was practically buried under paperwork. He said quietly, âAlec, what the hell is going on?â
Alec still didnât meet his eyes. âHow many Shadowhunters have we lost in the last year, Jace? Do you know?â
Jace shifted uncomfortably, not wanting to be reminded of the funerals that somehow had become a normal part of their lives. âI dunno, maybe ten? Why? Demons get lucky sometimes and we die. What does that have to do with me getting married?â Although now Jace was trying to think about when that had happened, when it had become normal to have this many funerals. It hadnât been like that when they were younger. Right? He was pulled from his thoughts when Alec spoke again.Â
âTwelve. Weâve lost twelve Shadowhunters in New York alone, just last year. Thatâs one a month. And some of the other Institutes have been hit worse. Weâre dying, Jace, at an alarming rate.â There was a depth of grief in Alecâs voice that Jace couldnât understand, more than just the normal loss that all Shadowhunters felt when one of their own died, and he found himself pressing a hand over his parabatai rune, feeling an echo of it deep inside him.Â
Alec gestured at the mess on the table in front of him. âDo you know what Iâve been doing the last few weeks? Iâve been combing the archives to see if something like this has happened in the past. Iâve asked Magnus to search his Downworld scrolls to check and the answer is no. The Shadowhunter population has stayed almost completely stable for centuries, regardless of wars or anything else. Something new is going on. Something is killing us off, bit by bit.â
Jace was dumbfounded. âAnd your solution is to fucking marry me off? To a vampire? In what world does that make any kind of fucking sense?â
âYouâre not the only one getting married, Jace. The Clave has ordered a series of marriages to create an alliance with the more prominent groups of Downworldersâ warlocks, Seelies, werewolves, and vampires. Izzy, mom, and I are all getting married to Downworlders the same day you are.â
Jaceâs head was pounding. âWhat? The Clave wants all of us to marry Downworlders? Who are you marrying? Who is Izzy marrying? Why are any of us getting married at all?â His voice was getting slightly hysterical but Jace didnât think he could be blamed for it. Nothing made sense.Â
âWe are dying, Jace. Something is going on and we need other people to help us stop it and the Downworld is our best option. At this rate, we canât keep the demon world in check and figure out why we keep getting killed with the number of Shadowhunters we have. We need allies. We need more people on patrol. We need the knowledge the Downworld has that weâve been ignoring for centuries because of our own stupid prejudices.
âSo Izzyâs going to marry a Seelie, Iâm marrying a warlock, Mom is marrying a werewolf, and youâre marrying a vampire. This is happening.â Alecâs words were hard and firm.
Jace was reeling and he couldnât figure out what to comment on first. He fell back to repeating his earlier question. âWho are you marrying? Who is Izzy marrying?â Jaceâs eyes widened as he realized that heâd missed something in Alecâs deluge of information. âWait, who is Maryse marrying?âÂ
âIzzy is marrying Meliorn, heâs one of the Seelie Queenâs knights.â Jace saw Alec take a deep breath. âIâm marrying Magnus,â Jace started to puff up and Alec spoke louder, âthe High Warlock of Brooklyn and the inventor of the Portal. Mom is marrying Luke, the Beta of the New York pack.âÂ
The knot of rage in Jace's throat was now so large he could barely speak. "So you get to marry your boyfriend and Izzy gets to marry someone she knows and likes and has been sleeping with for six months already, Mom gets to marry her âone that got away,â and I get to marry a stranger. A random-ass vampire. Do I have it right, Alec? Anything Iâm missing?â
He watched Alec swallow. Jace was in complete disbelief. âI am missing something, arenât I. Holy shit, Alec, what else? Is there something I should know about this vampire? Do you even know her name? Anything about her?â Jace could hear himself shouting but didnât care.Â
Alec seemed to shrink down into himself, shoulders curling in for a long moment before he stood up and came around the desk to stand in front of Jace. He straightened into an open battle stance, centered on the balls of his feet and braced for anything. Jace stared up at him. There was an ugly sense of foreboding in his gut.Â
Alec's voice was even, no inflection whatsoever, and he was looking past Jaceâs head to the far wall. "There tend to be more male vampires than female. I told the Clan that you were bisexual. I don't know if youâre marrying a man or a woman."Â
Jace's fist had broken Alec's nose before he had even registered that he'd moved. Alec's head snapped back and blood started to pour out immediately. Heâd made no move to defend himself, just rolled with the punch, hands hanging loose at his sides.Â
Jace could hear the breath sawing in and out of his lungs and his hand was throbbing in time with the heartbeat thundering in his ears. He looked at his parabatai and saw the acknowledgement of betrayal in Alecâs eyes. And regret and resignation and about five other emotions Jace couldn't identify.Â
Alec stood there, unmoving, and the blood slowly dripped down his face as they stared at each other.Â
Jace's voice was a croak when he finally spoke. "Is it really that bad?"Â
Alec's voice was nasal and choked and he had to clear his throat several times before he could speak. "Magnus and I estimate that all the Shadowhunters in the world will be dead in three years if we don't do something. Maybe less."Â
Jace staggered back, moving far away from Alec until he hit the wall of the office. He slid down until his ass was on the floor. He buried his fingers in his hair and blindly looked at the carpet in front of him.Â
He heard Alec sigh and move back around his desk, rattling drawers until he found a handkerchief. Jace watched as Alec put it over his face and set his nose with a crack and a grunt. He made a cursory wipe at the blood and then dropped the handkerchief in the trash bin.
Jace let his head fall back against the wall as Alec walked over and settled down on the floor next to him. They breathed for a few more minutes before Jace spoke. "How could this happen? How come no one has noticed that we're all fucking dying? What the hell, Alec.â
Alec sighed and Jace watched as Alec let his long legs stretch out on the floor before glancing over at him. His voice was tired. âMagnus thinks that thereâs some powerful magic going on, some kind of worldwide glamour that makes us, just, look away? Just accept whatâs happening and not think about it. Like you did. By the Angel, Jace, you thought that ten Shadowhunters had died last year and you said it like it was no big deal! And in reality it was twelve. One every damn month. There are only a few hundred Shadowhunters at the Institute in the first place. And itâs getting worse. Only six died two years ago.â He huffed out a breath. âOnly six.âÂ
Jace shifted, uncomfortable with the idea that he was under some sort of glamour and didnât know it. âSo how did you notice it?â
Alecâs laugh startled them both. He cut an amused glance at Jace and said, âMagnus says itâs because Iâm a workaholic with a giant hard-on for paperwork.â Jace grinned and Alec smirked back before sobering. âAlthough heâs not really wrong. Do you know how much funerals cost, Jace? Itâs a lot. And suddenly the Institute was slowly going broke and I couldnât figure out why. And then once I started connecting the dots, it was like a veil lifted and everything was clear. Ask Magnus; I freaked out on him pretty badly when I figured it out. He started investigating too and then we reached out to the other Institutes to see if it was just us. It wasnât.Â
âThey didnât actually believe us, at first, either. We had to ask for their funeral records. Those were harder to ignore. We got the Clave involved a few weeks ago and everything has happened pretty fast since then. Even those stubborn asses could see the problem. Magnus and I were able to convince them that with the help of the Downworld, we might have a chance to figure out what the fuck is happening and hopefully not all die before we can. This was the best solution we could come up with to make alliances quickly that couldnât easily be broken. There will be an amendment to the Accords to include our marriages right now, and then we will rewrite them completely in the future, after this is over. Thatâs the deal. If this works at all.â
The room went quiet again after Alec finished. They sat there. Jace listened to the clock on Alecâs desk tick softly. Alec didnât say anything. When Jace glanced over at him, Alecâs head was leaning against the wall and his eyes were closed. He looked almost asleep. Jace was startled to realize that he didnât remember the last time he and Alec had trained together. Or done much of anything together in the last few weeks. Jaceâd been so busy with patrols. And apparently funerals.
Jace closed his eyes. âOkay,â he whispered, âokay, I guess Iâll marry a vampire.âÂ
There was a touch on his arm. Jace looked down as Alec wrapped a cool, dry hand around his wrist. âEntreat me not to leave thee, or return from following after thee. For whither thou goest, I will go, And where thou lodgest, I will lodge.â Jace heard the words Alec spoke softly reverberate in his head and his parabatai rune burned.Â
âJace, I am sorry. I know you have⊠complicated feelings towards being bi. I hope itâs not even an issue and that youâll end up with a woman that you can get along with. I just knew that the Clan might not go for it unless I offered them the option. You know they have weird hierarchies. I couldnât take the chance. Weâre dying and I canât stop it.â Alecâs hand abruptly tightened on Jaceâs arm, becoming a bruising vice grip. âBut Jace, you are still my parabatai, your soul is in my soul, and I will be with you through this, every step of the way. And Iâll find a way out of it if we need to. I promise you.â Alecâs voice was fierce before fading away into silence again.
Jace was suddenly exhausted, the maelstrom of emotions coursing through him finally easing, leaving behind bone-deep weariness and a headache behind his temples. Alecâs hand rested on his arm for another minute before dropping away. He looked over and Alecâs eyes were closed again. He wondered when Alec had last slept. The leftover blood still on his face had turned dark brown and was crusted in little flakes around his nostrils. The bruising would be spectacular if it wasnât healed soon.
âAre you going to use an iratze on your nose.â Jaceâs voice was flat, more of a statement than a question.
Alecâs eyes opened a slit and peered over at him. âNo,â he said, shortly. His eyes closed again.
Jace felt a small, vicious curl of satisfaction in his gut. He relaxed against the wall and closed his own eyes. âShit, man. This sucks.â
Alec let out a breathy chuckle. âYes, Jace. This fucking sucks.âÂ
